Shifter for 700R4

I'm tired of the stock shifter in my Camaro , my trans it's a 700R4 , i'm looking for something aftermarket in the range of 100-180$ , anybody knows direct fit replacements (using stock center console) like this ?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-80692/

P.D. : I hate chrome parts

Re: Shifter for 700R4

Console versions will work on camaros. It still requires cutting the tray plate and using the new overlay and shifter boot. On the Firebirds that have Formula style rolled ash tray they won't fit as easy. Theres not a lot of choices for direct fit under the consoles. Hurst makes a dual gate that has a console kit for them but there more expensive. I've also heard shifting is kinda awkward if you don't press it in the right direction you can still skip gears. I like my pro ratchet, but it's far from a direct replacement. I suguest searching around there are a bunch of pics of different ones. Any way you go be prepared to replace the transmission cable and adjust it. I used a the GM cable on the megashifter but it wasn't fun.

Either way you go you'll learn the "direct fit" parts are hardly ever direct fit.

Be nice if someone stickied unique replacement parts for camaro an firebirds. Such as the shifters. I know doing a search would work but something more direct and helpful than looking around for specific wording and looking through page fulls of threads and paragraphs full of articles in each one just to find what someone is looking for. Just an opinion.

If you don't like the chrome handle, you can buy a black plastic handle for pretty cheap that looks just like the chrome one. I have one, and the nice thing about it is it doesn't get so hot in the summer when I park my car in the sun that I can't shift out of park without burning my hand.

Re: Shifter for 700R4

I run a B&M Megashifter. It works great with my custom built auto/manual 700R4. Install was pretty straightforward and it came ready to install in the 3rd gen. I also dont care much for the shift handle but I think I might just switch it to a shift ****. The lever is threaded.

Does this shifter show the 4th gear (OD)? I have only seen shifters with 1st, 2nd and Drive..

Re: Shifter for 700R4

Yes it should as most shifters will that are made for the 700-R4, which have the indicator. I know the proratchet also has a sticker to show the gear selection also, but it's not a console friendly shifter.

To get the indicator to work on the megashifter you must hook up the provided cable to the shifter and use there trim overlay and window. It's all included in the console version along with the 2 additional brackets needed to raise the shifter up from the sheetmetal tunnel.

Believe so. I also agree on the megashifter getting hot in the sun. I've temporary branded myself before with the logo when I had one installed on hot summer days.

Re: Shifter for 700R4

I had the megashifter in my camaro for 5 years. I liked it. I drive with gloves on so I don't get burnt. Kept it for the TH-400/454 big block swap. Took it out for the T5 swap.

A factory "T-handle" shifter from a 3rd gen trans am or 89 Z24 will work and cost less than $20.00

Best part is it will look factory

Re: Shifter for 700R4

I got my megashifter from a guy here on the calassified boards. It didnt have the front and rear mount brakets. It was still easy to mount it. B&M said that I didnt need them all I had to do was use/make spacers. It did come with 2 that he used. All I did was drill 2 holes and then ran carrage bolts with lock washers and a little lock tight. No problem.
