Re: ALLDATA, anyone use it?

Alldata, Haynes and Chilton each have some pieces of information that the others don't. None of them on its own is very complete.

The only manual worth having is the factory service manual from Helm.

They show up regularly on eBay for a lot less, if you don't mind the occasional greasy thumbprint.

Re: ALLDATA, anyone use it?

Alldata claims to have the OE information. I used alldata and mitchell. I prefer mitchell. But alldata has some stuff mitchell doesnt have and mitchell has stuff that alldata doesnt have. Almost need both for complete information. But the mitchell online subcription. Has a lot of diagnostic data and if thier is something abnormal a lot of time tech's will post up something saying hey if your having this problem check this part out because I spent 5 hours diagnosing a 60 dollar part etc etc..

Re: ALLDATA, anyone use it?

That's pretty much it. Either you get the Haynes and the Chilton, and subscribe to Alldata and Mitchell's, hoping that at least one of them has what you're looking for, or you get just the Helm and maybe one of the subscriptions for TSB info.

Re: ALLDATA, anyone use it?

I agree, my shop has Alldata and Mitchell they are both very helpful but why buy a year subscription when you can get a helms manual that is way more complete for not much more. I buy helms manuals for the cars I own and they have a retarded amount of information and sometimes colored wire diagrams, diagnostic aids etc.

Yes, Helm publishes factory service manuals for a number of brands. Don't pay $80 for a used one though when that's what they cost new directly from Helm. http://www.helminc.com.

There's the professionall Alldata which used to be on DVD but is now online, but there's also a lightweight version you can subscribe to for individual year-make-model-engine combinations and access online.

Re: ALLDATA, anyone use it?

I have bought a few shop and body manuals on CD off of Ebay in the past few months and am real happy with them. I paid around $30 apiece for them and I just print off a page when i need to. Better than buying a second hand greasy book for $80 IMO.

Ouch... it looks like they're out of stock of originals for 89 and all they have is the repros at twice the price. Other years are cheaper.

yup mitchell wiring diagrams are better. if you have one or two cars a regular manual would be fine. But at a shop you cant buy a service manual for every car. Well I guess you could technically just doesnt seem as practical.

We use both alldata and the Mitchell program and the Alldata is good but the Mitchell is way better. It's worth the money.

If you have the top dollor subscription to alldata, There's nothing that you can't find on it. It cost about 500.00 a month but it hasn't let me down yet.

All data can be had for $175 a month and if it's not on there, their customer support team will get you the info......

There's a world of difference between the professional and the DIY subscriptions.

Re: ALLDATA, anyone use it?

I have both AllData Pro and Mitchell on Demand. Can't remember how I used to fix cars without them.

Of the 2, I would give Mitchell the nod. The searching function and organization of the info is more logical. I typically go there first, and use AllData for backup.

I enjoy the alldata search function easier, usually what you are looking for pops up in the 1st 2 options.

mitchell search is powered by google but you can type in power steering pump removal and it'll bring up wiring diagram because it shows a power steering switch on there. irritates me.
