granted for the money, the ultra-z is an awesome tire, but based ONLY on performnace, what would you choose?
i am looking more for all straight line traction rather than cornering. although i definitely want a tire that can handle some toght cornering, the straight line stuff is what i am really looking for.
thanks

the bfg drag radial is terrible for street use. they are meant to go basically to and from the track, not for every day driving or they will wear out way too fast. good for the track, but not so good for the street.
i plan on getting a set for another set of rims that i have for when i go to the track, but not for every day driving.

Like I said in the other post, the ultra Z's equaled the GSC's in every way, except wet handling. Here they outperformed the GSC's. This was from a test that Motor Trend did a couple of months ago.

Try the Nitto drag radial. I havent noticed any wet traction problems. Might be because I just use my head while driving and dont do stupid stuff when the roads conditions are bad.

When Motor trend tested the Gsc's vs. Futura they were behind (the futura's) in everything except braking. They stopped 2 feet shorter. It was on a 99 mustang Gt. The gsc is a better tire. But i'd go with the eagle F1's much better tires.
Trending Topics
Due to longterm reliabilty, tread pattern, softness of the tire, and just a liking to Goodyear, I think I'd prefer to keep the GSC's, besides, in da 12's on the GSC's, hoping quicker on BFG Drag's.

How about BFG CompT/A's? Thats what i run and they are a good tire. I actually have a Ultra Z on my back driver side cause i blew out my tire and couldn't find a Comp replacement in time.

After driving a friend's 95 convertible Z with the BFG Comp TA-ZR's, I really like them as well, I guess I'm just Goodyear-biased. They both make high quality tires, I can't really say Jack about the Futura's, as I've never bought 'em, and without much to go on but a road test by a magazine that constantly puts down cars like the camaro, etc, I probably never will.

I have BFGs on my Elcamino, but when the time comes, I'm going with the Futuras. Mainly for the price. I have the Futuras on my T/A, the GLH series. I love them. They have lasted a long time, (and I drive them hard too) But I will upgrade to the GLSs. A slightly better tire, and worth every penny. Litterally, every penny.

I didn't want to go woth the Comp T/A ZRs because they are way to expensive. They will run me like 800 bucks, while the Ultra-Zs are like 450 and the GSCs are like 500 (I plan on getting them from SLP if I get them).
If money wasn't an issue, then I would definitely go with the Comp T/As. I LOVE those tires, but I just can't see spending the money on them.
If you look at teh latest Pep Boy's brochure about the Ultra-Zs, it has a little thing from when a magazine tested them against a GSC. I don't remember which magazine though, it could have bee the Motor Trend that you guys were talking about.
But, my point is that they had all of teh numbers right there in their brochure which stated that the Goodyears actually beat it in EVERY category but wet traction I think. Don't ask me why the hell they would advertise that they lost a comparison test, but they did.
Well, luckily there is still a few months of snow up here, so I don't have to make a decision just yet. So far though, I think I am leaning towards the GSCs, primarily based on teh fact that the new Zs and TAs come with them from teh factory. That has to mean something.
Keep the opinions coming though.

I don't own a set of Ultra Zs, but I can tell you this: There are a lot of guys who swear buy them, especially some of the 4thgen guys at CamaroZ28.com. Some of them have cut 2.0 60 foots on them, so they can't be too bad. Plus, at $100 a piece, they are a great deal. They have a nice sidewall profile. And finally, they are wide as hell. They are literally barely smaller than a 17" 275 width tire. 245 my *** ... I **** you not, side by side they are barely smaller than a 275/40/17. I plan to get a set for the rear of my T/A soon.
But if you like the feeling of getting boned in the *** by all means get a set of Goodyears. Biggest ripoffs in the tire business IMO.

i went with the
COOPER COBRA XST's
245/50-16 .. i love these tires. and since i noticed you dont drive your car in the winter i mentioned this. it is specifically for the summer time tire. the tread is deep. and the tread wear is 380. i searched everytire that was made and it came down to cooper.. and i am a BFG man. the biggest thing that brought me to these tires was the tread pattern. the W pattern in these are bad *ss. and in the rain it is unbelievable. the spread the water like the red sea. haha. but seriously for 100.00 a tire i was impressed and you should check them out. COOPER COBRA XST's. you will be amazed. and the traction is amazing also. i had firstones when i bought the car and i started to see steel belts so i changed tires to the coopers and i gained .2 off of my time slip. have fun and also go to TIRERACK.com to look for some really good deals.

So I'm assuming ya don't like Goodyear's, MrJ. I don't know if I'd go and call 'em the biggest ripoff in the tire business though. They perform best on dry pavement, and they're soft as hell. If you run these directional GSC's backwards on your rear wheels, you will indeed pick up better 60' times at the strip. It's kind of like the difference in bolt-on parts. Some prefer one brand, while some prefer another. Some will buy the cheaper, uncoated headers, while others will spend the $ on the ceramic coated or stainless ones. It's all what ya want, and what ya wanna spend. Either way, I'll bet I can post under 2.00 on my Goodyears, mounted any way you want.

Its not that I don't like goodyears. I used to have a set of Eagle VRs on the front of the car, and they performed well. One thing I do like about them is how their tires are so wide. A Goodyear Eagle GS-C 245/50/16 is a nice looking tire, don't get me wrong. My problem with Goodyear is that they charge so much. You can get your money's worth better elsewhere.
I do indeed agree with ya on their price. They are high as hell, and for a retro (if that's what came stock) preference, cool. But damn, even the BFG drag radial is cheaper. And if those aren't high enough, dig the sticker on the F1's.

I personally have had NO problems with the BfGoodrich Comp T/As. They have been a great tire. I also have put the Cooper Cobras on many of my customer's vehicles and they loved them! So, I say go with what you like. If it were based on price, I would go with the Cobras hands down. All out performance, Comp T/As, hands down! just my .02
