How can this starter work for 168 tooth???

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GM-SBC-B...item231608b265

Says it works for both 153 and 168. I use 168 and have a slanted bolt pattern but the one here has 4 holes all in a line. How is that supposed to work for 168? Anybody here use this kind of starter before?

A lot of engine blocks have three holes so you can use a straight or a diagonal bolt starter. If yours is one of them, then that should work.

one set of holes puts the starter closer to the crank for the 153 tooth. the other holes space it father from the crank for the 168 tooth. you need the holes in line. doesnt work with the offset bolt holes.

also, the starter is clockable, you can take the 2 allen head screws loose from the mouting block and rotate the starter to keep it away from things like headers. ive got pretty much the same starter on my car. it also has a notch on the mounting block to clear the header flange.

Should work if not you need the 153 tooth flywheel.chevy has two flywheels the tooth counts are 153 or 168,either one should work if the one you have doesnt work than the other will,

Re: How can this starter work for 168 tooth???

the point of this starters design is it can be used with either 153 or 168....ive used the same starter on my 153 cars flywheel and for a short time on my trucks 168 tooth flexplate..
