Re: Nitro gears?

taking off in 1st gear is like taking off in 4th in a normally setup car. The recommended gearing for the combo of my cam with my transmission is 3.73 to 4.11. with the 4.11 in 6th at 70 mph I'll be at about 1800 RPM. I need to save my clutch somehow, lol. It's not strictly for DD either.

I'm also used to a very short 1st gear because of my truck, it has a "bump start" gear.

Re: Nitro gears?

Sorry but what is a "bump start gear".I looked it up and there is only a reference to "bump start = push start" ???
Any way your not pulling stumps with a Camaro there for getting the most out of 1st gear is your best bet. Shifting into second a micro second after launch is wasting your hardest pulling gear. Beaning able to push 1st gear to its furthest potential would be the way to go.Not eliminate it. Thats one of the reasons 3.73s are so popular with manual trans missions.and 3.42s with autos. They allow you to have a 1st gear.

Re: Nitro gears?

Thanks for the input. I'm going to look farther into them. I did notice a lot of typos in their descriptions across the site.

by 'bump start" I mean a very short 1st gear. usually shifting by 12-15mph, lol. When I use the calculator, there isn't to much of a difference of speeds between 3.73 and 4.11

This is showing with 2.66:1 first gear

Engine Speed 4.11 Gear 3.73 Gear 2.73 Gear
8000 RPM 55.84 MPH 61.53 MPH 84.07 MPH
7500 RPM 52.35 MPH 57.68 MPH 78.81 MPH
7000 RPM 48.86 MPH 53.84 MPH 73.56 MPH
6500 RPM 45.37 MPH 49.99 MPH 68.30 MPH
6000 RPM 41.88 MPH 46.15 MPH 63.05 MPH
5500 RPM 38.39 MPH 42.30 MPH 57.80 MPH
5000 RPM 34.90 MPH 38.46 MPH 52.54 MPH
4500 RPM 31.41 MPH 34.61 MPH 47.29 MPH
4000 RPM 27.92 MPH 30.76 MPH 42.03 MPH
3500 RPM 24.43 MPH 26.92 MPH 36.78 MPH
3000 RPM 20.94 MPH 23.07 MPH 31.52 MPH
2500 RPM 17.45 MPH 19.23 MPH 26.27 MPH
2000 RPM 13.96 MPH 15.38 MPH 21.02 MPH
1500 RPM 10.47 MPH 11.54 MPH 15.76 MPH
1000 RPM 6.98 MPH 7.69 MPH 10.51 MPH

I tried to make it look spaced out, but it keeps on defaulting

Re: Nitro gears?

Looks like you have done some searching . Thats the same kind of stuff I do. I love doing a investigation on subjects.
Any way you might want to stick with a tired and true gear set.
Yukon and Motive gear sets seem to be popular.Richmond also but stick with there Street/Strip sets. There made for street with mild track use.The Pro-series is track only.

Re: Nitro gears?

I'm in the mode of I only want to do this once, lol. There was a small discussion about what ratio I should go with in my build thread. I appreciate the concern to make sure I'm making the best choice.
