Goodmark fenders = JUNK

Goodmark fenders = JUNK
So I bought this exact fender from RockAuto, who is a great reseller BTW:
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...729&cc=1251863
But the Goodmark fender is total junk and I mean that in every sense of the word. The shape of the curve the front of the door has (not the outward but the vertical), yeah Goodmark didn't even TRY to mirror it. The fender doesn't match it even close! The gaps are huge at the top and bottom and the fender almost touches the door in the center. Perhaps if this had been the outward curve it could have been adjusted/shimmed but you can't change the vertical curve so I'm f*cked.
I don't know what Goodmark's malfunction is but heed my warning: NEVER, EVER, buy a Goodmark product. No amount of work will get it to fit when it isn't even shaped right!!!!!
I bought this thing like 5 months ago and not like return shipping would have been worth it anyway
Eat a fat long co*k Goodmark!

It's not really Goodmark's fault. I think they just sell the same overseas crap that is also sold through crash parts suppliers. Sometimes they fit ok, but often it's just garbage. Stuff like that is best bought local, so you can easily swap it out if it doesn't fit. I prefer good used factory parts, or NOS of course.

Yeah, I get it. Many times over the years I have got a garbage fender, had the supply store bring me another one of the same part number, and it was workable. Not always, just sometimes. I always had to try, because if the second one didn't fit, the insurance company had to buy a factory part.

My biggest point is, it's really not Goodmark's fault. They are just selling the same thing everyone else has available to sell. There's nothing better out there besides factory.

And one other thing, you got the fender to actually bolt onto the car. There is much MUCH worse out there.

I bought a new steel hood through a body shops supplier (unknown manufacturer) and it was too wide. We didn't install it until months later because he was backlogged on paint and body. So now my fenders stick out like viper heat extractor vents. Lesson learned. Use salvage yard body panels or from places you guys recommend.

Re: Goodmark fenders = JUNK
The reason their hoods fit better is because it seems the tooling was developed just to market their hoods. The fenders are likely made with the same tooling the crash parts fenders have always been made with.
And to be quite blunt, anyone that expects an aftermarket fender to fit well is the one at fault.

I strongly disagree it's not their fault because they just "sell it".. Also to say it's the fault of the person buying it because they should know? Look, we all know after market might need some adjusting or something to fit, but to be so off you can't even make it work?
Also, right from goodmarks site:
"Doing a classic car, classic truck, or hot rod restoration? Goodmark has the sheet metal, trim, and auto parts you need to complete your project. Goodmark has strived to maintain high quality on all restoration parts whether your project is a Dodge Challenger, Plymouth Barracuda, Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Classic Pick-up, or other classic vehicle."
^ That's a lie, then.

And yes, it's very likely to get an aftermarket fender that can't even be used. Whether or not anyone wants to admit it, that's just the way it is. The fender pictured above is how the typical aftermarket fender fits and anything better SHOULD NOT be expected.
Applications for modern cars tend to fit a little better, but that's only because they try a little harder for better manufacturing now. The fenders for 3rd gens are the same product that has been available since they were new cars and quality expectations were not as high.

Re: Goodmark fenders = JUNK
I could fix that. aftermarket fenders never fit right. just grind a quarter inch off the part that is close to the door and weld it up. I have had much worse!

Looks like a semi easy fix, even tho you shouldn't have to.
How is the lower body line, it looks a bit goofy

Re: Goodmark fenders = JUNK
We finally got it all sorted but it was a very time consuming and expensive endeavor to do right that I never wish to repeat or see someone else have to deal with.
I'm sure other fenders with different sorts of defects would be easier.

Re: Goodmark fenders = JUNK
92GTA,I just had one question for u on the inside of the goodmark fender does it have a white "gmdot" sticker on it?

Re: Goodmark fenders = JUNK
It had a white sticker on the inside that was like 2"x4" with some P/Ns on it. Don't recall what exactly it said tho, sorry.
I ended up keeping my original fender tho because of the date codes on the top and the P/N on the inside of it, maybe one day I'll have the $ to rehab it.

Re: Goodmark fenders = JUNK
I tried some aftermarket parts on my car, but had similar problems. Just gave up and went on the search for OEM stuff. No aftermarket will ever fit like one no matter what they say.
