Desktop Dyno 2000 info request

Just how in-depth does desktop dyno 2000 go? Also, does it have provisions for the TPIS miniram/miniram II?

I only use it for "ball-park" estimating. The numbers it comes up with are a bit on the high side Actually, I think they are really on the high side.

As far as the Mini-Ram's. The online manual states that you can use the "single plane" manifold option. If you have something like Accel's Super Ram, it states that you can use the "tunnel ram" manifold option. I don't think it is the same...that's just what the manual says to do.

That's right. It's an inexpensive program to give you an idea of which changes produce results.

I use it basically because it's quick and let's me know if my combination likes a particular modification or not.

The numbers it spits out, in my opinion, are wildly optimistic.

A much better, but also a LOT more expensive is Engine Analyzer Pro. It's in the $500 range but allows you to enter a ton of specific info.

BTW, I had a recently rebuilt 355 Vette engine on eBay for $1,000, complete, less sensors. I took a deposit on it, but the buyer's dragging his feet on coming up with the rest of the $$. Check eBay, there may be another one.

I like Dyno 2000. Albeit, it does produce numbers a little on the high side, and doesn't alow for goofs, Like using a 110* lobe sep angle for TPI, it does produce decent results. I like that you can enter cam shaft specs and head specs and get a good idea of how they would combine.

You can get it directly from the company that makes it. They are running some package deals right now. Their site is www.motionsoftware.com

I'm a firm believer in dyno simulations. However, you really get what you pay for. I have Performance Trends EA Pro ($425), and their standard EA version ($110). The Pro version is so close that I've about quit using the real dynos. Their standard version is easy to use and while not as accurate as the Pro version,, it gets pretty close (rarely off more than 3% from 2500 rpm up anyway). A friend wanted me to compare his Desktop Dyno software to some real dyno runs (that the EA practically mirrored),, and it was WAY OFF at the lower end of the band and especially with the smaller duration cams. Peak HP was "in the ball park",, but it's not what I'd call accurate. However, like I told him,, $40 is not much,, and it is fun,, and does give you a pretty good idea of what changing one part to the other would do as long as you compared peak numbers that is.
