hp gain from these mods
ok, if i got an edelbrock(sp, not thinking straight so dont knock the spelling) open element intake, hooker headers, high flow cat, flowmaster 40 series muffler, what do you guys think the hp gain would be. and torque to.
if i got all that and added a crane cams energizer cam and 1.6 roller rockers, how much more am i looking at??? thanks

if I were you I'd maybe just think about gettinga 350, for the money you'll be putting in that 305 you could almost have 350. and a stock 350 will run just as good as a beefed up 305. just my 2 cents though.

as much as i would love to it's outta the ? i am only 16 and i like the 305 for that exact reason, people think, well it's only a 305, especially ricers. thanks for the input but do u have any input on how much gain i will be lookin at. thanks

What does age have to do with owning a 305 or a 350? Im 16 and I enjoy my 350, heh. Ricers around here, well, they don't bother, they hear me comming up the street for blocks... Is it insurance problems you have? Cause I've got a friend, with an 84 trans am, was originally a V4. Now its got the exterior of an 89 trans am, with a 355ci 375hp carbed engine. Moral of the story? Insurance still thinks its a V4:lala:

40 hp is probably about right but to really take advantage of those parts you will need a bigger cam and better heads.
The 1.6 rockers will give some hp but the money could be better spent on other items which will give better gains.

age doesn't have anything to do with owning it, but the car came with a 305, and the point i was tryin to make was that i dont have 3000+ to be spending on an engine, and right now my family is tryin to figure out where the hell we are gonna live and at either house i dont have a garage enough to do a motor swap anyway. hell yea if i had the money and the place and knowledge to do it i would swap to 350, but for right now the 305 will have to do.
well if the money on the rockers could be spent better other places, what do u suggest, for right around 100 bucks there aren't an a$$ load of options are there.
some dudes in the chat room were sayin that with those mods i would only gain about 15-20 hp and i thought that was absolutely off the wall and i just had to know what it would really be. i know every car is different but i knew it would be more than 15-20.
thanks guys, i didn't know there were so many young guys like me on here. that's cool.

The only one i would trust as far as power gains in the chat is Pony KIller, you should definitely get 40 hp from that stuff and perhaps shave an entire second off et. for around $100 I would suggest a cam swap it'll prolly cost more like $150 but be well worht it

ok, now i have a real question, kind of i think, glasspacks, way cheaper than muffler and that would save big and could help in doing other mods to the car as well. i figure the cost of the cat back system-the glasspacks and i save well over $150, that's enough to buy a cam and have some(maybe left over for something more) the question is, will i gain/lose any hp or torque going with glasspacks instead of the flowmaster 40 series, with the cat back system, i am thinking probably not b/c they would probably flow almost if not as good or better than the muffler. also with the cam what duration, lift and lobe should i get. thanks

I'm thinking 30-35ish hp or so for the whole set of mods. And that's real world HP gains not crappy advertising garbage, quite a good gain...
Now, the cam is where a crapload of power is also laying in wait. The stock cam swap from 85 to 86 in the 305 TPI motor sucked 25hp out of the stock engine. You're running the same worthless peanut cam. You go and put a even better cam than the 85's in there on top of the other mods and you're seriously looking at another 30+ hp gain...
I've basically done all that on my 86 IROC which is now retired to my little brother, and it was/is a totally different car. Running a 204/214 @.050 .420/.442 lift cam in there, with TES headers and all the other assorted goodies (stock TPI intake, with some plenum porting and runner matching). It just loved to eat up the stock or mildly modded 5.0 Stangs after the mods... I was quite happy with it for a 305.
Oh yeah, you'll want a Performer intake or something similar on there as well. Check out, www.inter-scape.com/ray/305buildup.htm Good buildup on a LG4, they got pretty good numbers with a exhaust/intake/cam change on the LG4. For a auto you'd want to tone it down a bit on the cam side though...

first off, mr.nova: v4? I take it you mean 4 cylinder right? I think there is only a few companies that make a v4, and I pretty sure gm only has straight 4s, Its ok though, honest mistake.
I'd have to say no thanks on the glass packs, get on the exhaust board and search it, they don't seem to give you any more power, go with a perfromance cat-back, I've taken a full second of the stock time, with my mods, heck I was spinning the whole way, you might want to look into sus. too
