Chech general freight companies. When I got my crate engine it was delivered by Conway Trucking. $200/300 is the going rate. It is not like shipping something by UPS.

I checked with a few but most of them charge $500-$600.

Whatever you do don't use R L, if I told you what I've seen done to the 383 short blocks I see come through the terminal I work at you'd cringe.

Re: Engine Shipping

well they ship them in these plastic trays instead of crates (which is really Grooms Engines fault), and besides general rough handling, one night there wasn't enough room on the truck heading northeast for this order of 3 383 stroker short blocks so the loader stacked them like a pyramid on the tail of the truck to get'em in there.

Re: Engine Shipping

And to answer the original question, I've personally had good luck with Yellow (although I've heard rumors of their impending demise), they shipped a tool chest full of tools from Philly to Nashville without any problems, don't know what the exact cost was cause I didn't pay for it.

And if your going to use a trucking company to ship a usable part and not a blown up core return etc., please always use a crate or some other means to protect your item. For starters the pickup drivers aren't supposed to accept unprotected freight anyway, so you should do this to ensure your transaction goes smoothly. And it's frustrating for the freight handlers like myself when we get freight that we know is valuable but the shipper didn't care enough to protect it adequately, no dock worker is gonna let himself be penalized on his breaking time so he can stop and do something that the shipper should have done in the first place. When the freight handlers see that the shipper took just a few extra minutes to make sure the freight stays intact or they did something to make the freight easier to handle with the forklift, we all really appreciate that and it goes a long way to ensure your item is handled correctly.

Re: Engine Shipping

Check freightquote.com. They will get you shipping prices from a handfull of different companies. If you don't have a forklift make sure you tell them you need a liftgate. Unfortunately, liftgates are usually add $50 to $75 to the price.
