ASCD is horriable!

First off, they do make great looking hoods on the outside. But installition was a PAIN! 45 minutes to get it to line up just right! had to use spacers and everything! Plus, it took them 12 weeks to ship me the hood and the first one they sent me the 10th was a deffictive hood! The vents aren't functional, the are closed up with 2 layers of fiberglass that u have to cut through to make functional. If I was anyone wanting to get a ASCD hood, don't get one from them. Try suncoast from cali. Just thought everyone should know.

Most of the hoods i've see do not come with functional scoops and have to be cut out anyways.

I thought Suncoast hoods comes with the vents open up to car engine all ready but you have to buy the airbox thing to make it really functional.

Hey Eric,
Just had to put up a counter point. I love my hood. It did take me forever to line up properly, but that doesn't mean the hood is defective. It could be square and the original hoods are not.
Also, they advertise that the inlets come out at the sides over the stock air cleaners, not behind the nostrils.
I recieved my hood in about a week. The guy that delivered it was nice and said he delivers them all the time, all around the country.
So, in a nutshell, I'm a happy customer.

Oh, BTW. Are you going to Dyno Day at MMC this weekend? I'd like to see your car.

Later,
Bob

The first was deffictive, the ram air was off to the left to much, the messed up on the mold. I just figure, I paid a crap load for the hood, they should atleast make the hood easier to put on. And make the vents functional. Yeah, I see the little holes they have cut out on the sides. Man, I want to come to Dyno Day bad. Its in Sterling Heights right? I think I have a map to get there. Someone gave me the address and I mapquested for directions. I work from 9:00-4:00 though. How long is it going to last?

Hate to be an *** , but I think the Suncoast hood looks better. As for quality, sometimes I hear people complaining about ASCD, but in general most are very happy with them. Just be glad it does not say Hardwood on it.

I like the look Get Blown, but the wait on the hood sucked and the way they tried to make in functional was RIDICLOUS! Cut 2 little holes on the side of the hood where the old nostrols would have been. Why didn't they just make the VENTS go back to the engine and why did they make it so hard to line up? Those are my only complaints. other than that, the hood looks sweet. I don't really know how u could tell the difference from one ram air hood for our thirdgens, from another for our thirdgens. What does suncoast have that the ASCD doesn't in looks?

Ill tell you why they made the ram air vents over to the side; Have you ever seen under the hood of a thirdgen firebird (sorry, Formula, TA, GTA, etc)? with a TPI motor? Well, the air cleaner is off to the side, thats right, about where the air exits the holes in the hood. They probably assume that most people buying the Ram Air hood have a TPI motor. They also make it possible to cut the area right behind the nostrils (in case someone is running TBI or a carb). I think that is pretty cool.

As with the fit, I have never seen a hood that will go on and have everthing about it line up perfectly. Just doesnt happen. Every car is different in the way the hood will fit. Its not that big of a deal to line the fenders up properly, shim the hood, etc. In my case, all I had to do was adjust the rubber stoppers and move one fender in a little bit. No big deal.

The guy that is painting the hood says it is of the highgest quality amoung aftermarket fiberglass hoods. He was really impressed with it.

They told me that it would take between 4-6 weeks to get the hood. Well, it took 10 days. Im a happy camper also.

Oh I see. Yeah, you are probably right. The guy who painted my car said the same thing about the hood that your guy said too. They are great hoods. I just had bad service with them, thats all.

45 minutes? That's all!? I'm not going to bother going into specifics again but suffice to say after an entire afternoon of cutting, sawing, and elongating holes my Harwood still doesn't fit. Fiberglass in its nature will not produce the same repeatable quality as steel, but from what I've seen the ASCD products are generally much higher quality and much more consistant than Harwood.

I wouldnt buy any kind of aftermarket fiberglass hood unless i was going to pin it down. I bought my 89 GTA a month after my 88 was totalled and it had a fiberglass hood which never seemed to line up right and flew off the car a few weeks later. For now i have to drive a hyundai sonota.

I also have to diagree. The servise I got was great. My hood came in less than 2 weeks. It was a pain to put in, and it still doesn,t fit right, but considering how bad my bodyshop guy said the front end had been wrecked, it fits pretty good. Also, I ordered my hood just after their price increase, and since I had been trying to decide their hood and another, I e-mailed the rep/tech guy and they gave it to me for the old price.

Yeah, another disagreement here. I bought like one of the first ASCD SS hoods over a year ago now. It fit in 15 minutes with two friends and no one had a clue... that was totally awesome. When they painted it they again said it was high quality and needed very little work!
I love ASCD and would buy my Firebird hood from them in a second.
Later,
RS

I kinda chuckled as well when you were commenting on how 45 minutes is a long time to line up your hood.

I must have spent 3 or 4 hours trying to get my hood to line up, but I love my hood. It's a VFN Fiberglass 4" cowl.

Alright Alright, chuckle chuckle, laugh laugh, this was my first time with installing hoods and I thought 45 minutes was a long time. But it still took them 10 weeks to send me a deffective hood and a total of 12 weeks to give me the right one. Its a great quality hood and it looks great on the car, just bad serive and bad luck I guess on my behalf.

Don't you guys think the ASCD big block ( maroon car ) hood looks better than the ram-air or SS hood? ( the blue car on the website ) I think the hood on the blue car looks kinda gay....not trying to step on anyoes toes....just my opinion..

Got my Big Block hood in a week. The fit sucks, 12 hours of fitting and it still needs work. The gel coat work is awesome, the mold however isn't straight. I will get this bitch to fit! Fiberglass hoods are great once you get them right.

I received my SS hood last week.I like it and it only took about 30-40 minutes to put on.I only had to adjust it once.Fit was nearly perfect. It's going in tomorrow to get painted. So,I guess I was one of the lucky ones to receive one of the least defective hoods. I am very satisfied with mine.

I've been waiting a month to get my damn SS hood. Still nothing. I keep on hearing they will find out whats going on for me.. but thats all I hear from them.

To hell with ASCD and thirdgenresource.com, I'm never buying from either of them again.

High quality, looks great

I bought my ACSD WS6 ram air hood from thunder racing. I wasn't in any paticular hurry to get it, but after 4 weeks I still didn't have it, so I called Thunder Racing. They though it had been shipped, but it had not. Thunder Racing promised to get it quickly. I it about a week later with a full credit on the shipping for my inconvenience. I will buy from them again.

I had a shop install it so I am not sure how hard it is to install.

*** Warning on any hood with scoops ***

After getting my hood installed, the ******* inspector at the local Chevy dealer failed it at the safety inspection because the 3" scoop was "too high", even as his own mechanics were drooling over it. I had another mechanic I knew who passed it without problems.

I dealt directly with ASCD for my SS hood and considered it a great experience, fast, friendly service, she spent the time to find the cheapest shipping to canada and even gave me a discount cause shipping was so much, it didn't take long to get here either!, My advise is deal direct, too many middle men are bound to complicate things.
