HSR question

Ok i installed my HSR, and now ive got something weird. If i leave it in first gear and try to get to 30mph im at 4000rpm, when before i was only at 3000rpm. I dont see why an intake change would do that, anyone have any ideas?

As the HSR will have different TQ characteristics, it may interact with the stall convertor differently than a stock TPI. The stall convertor should NOT be locked in 1st gear so slippage is normal.

Try the other gears and see if does the same thing.

It's slipping now if you REALLY went from 3000rpm at 30mph to 4000rpm at 30mph. There might be a slight change of the stall speed, but I would think that even a bone stock TPI system would have within 15 lbft of torque at 3000 of what the Stealth Ram would have at 4000 rpm,,, so if it were to change rpm it sure shouldn't be 1000rpm. My guess would be something has happened to the tach (wiring during installation?) or you're seeing the first signs of the transmission going bad. Check you TV cable adjustment - if it is off,, I guess it could drop the pressure enough to cause some slippage, which would cause the trans to run hot,,, causing more slippage. I've seen a number of transmisions go bad due to improper TV cable adjustment. If it isn't the TV cable adjustment,,, see if you can borrow an aftermarket tach to check yours.

is that before it shifts? maybe your running open loop mode with your tranny.

re-check your TV cable adjustment. it is slightly different with the stealth than the stock tpi intake.

No

If the TV cable was that far off, you'll need some clutches replaced. It doesn't take long to smoke them.

Most self adjusters leave something to be desired, after you go through that procedure squeeze the metal tab and move it one notch back and pull the throttle forward again, if it doesn’t self adjust try putting it another notch back, repeat till it does self adjust when you pull the throttle. At that point you know that “I can put it back 2 notches after it self adjusts and it will not self adjust again” and that’s where you want it (most it will be 1 or 2 notches).

You want the TV pulled all the way at WOT. If you do a transgo kit install they actually recommend that you get a second person and with the pan off and tranny partially dissasembled have them watch the TV plunger and adjust the self adjust on the cable till it is as tight as it will go without restricting anything, essentially you end up with the same thing as what I described.
