Can't decide? F.A.S.T or new efi

I'm trying figure out what I'm better off with. The fast computer for my setup or replace the tpi with accel pro-ram? And which is easier to program the fast or the accel dfi? I read up on the fast system and sounds really nice, but if the accel pro-ram works better than the tpi and the accel computer is just as easy to program then why not. So I'm looking for some opinions on both of these. Thanks

Have you consider DIY-PROM?

Your setup isnt that extreme and you would be fine with a custom prom.
There is a bunch of PROM stuff in the sales section

Otherwise I have read alot of good stuff about FAST...

It's not that extreme yet, but I've tried the prom, I was using Moates Ostrich and I can't get it to work worth a damn. So you think a chip from fastchips.com would work alright for me? I'll probably just go that route for right now.

Why not try and figure whats wrong with it? If you already have the equipment to tune it yourself then why waste money on another system thats not a whole lot better than what you have. If you wanna throw money away, I'll take some.

And this should be in the DFI and ECM section.

Well I was originally trying to find out about a possible new efi system, and I've been over there and can't seem to get much help with this ostrich. But hey I'll try again and maybe I'll have better luck this time.

There is nothing easier than the ostrich.

What exactly is your problem?

This is kinda the wrong board for this problem. I'll let it go a bit longer.

no, just no. Mail order tunes are a joke and there is no way they can properly taylor a tune to your specific motor. You end up with an undertuned car 100% of the time because they cant run too much spark advance without risking the occasional blow motor, so they keep it all backed down.

has to be done in real life with the car

Re: Can't decide? F.A.S.T or new efi

I've got the blm tuned pretty good, but when I go to get into it and gets above 3grand the damn car cuts out. And it's only for a split second. And sometimes it doesn't do it at all. And everyone keeps telling me to add AE, but the problem is when I look at the laptop I don't see anything that says AE. I think it's the hardware, the adapter sits loose in the computer and when I push on it slightly to see if it's seated all the way my RPM go up when I let go they go back down. I thought I'd be able to do this but everything on the board for the 7730 computer is not what I see on my screen for the laptop so it's kinda hard to tune it.

Re: Can't decide? F.A.S.T or new efi

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. I have a 383 HSR SD setup and tried tuning the stock computer to no help. I then tried a mail order chip from Ed Wright and it still didnt help me. Well after finding a sweet deal on a complete FAST bank to bank setup, I decided to take the plunge. Lets just say that I gained 100RWHP from the conversion from the stock SD mailorder tuned computer to a well tuned FAST setup. Yes that is right, 100 more hp. Thats how bad my stock tuning was and I was just chasing my tail around trying to tune it, Now all I have to do is plug my laptop into my car and tune on the cruise. I have 3 different programs I use for different driving condtions. AND, I can have my setup fine tuned from another FAST tuner anywhere in the country just by hooking up an interent connection to my laptop. Now how cool is that. Try finding anyone that will tune a factory SD or MAF setup and do a good job of it. There is not many places around that even want to get involved with it and that was one of the reasons that made me look into the FAST system. Id call a few shops up they didnt want to mess with a stock computer. If I found a decent shop, it was over 200 miles away and that meant towing my car. Ya right. I just bought the FAST setup, installed it myself and followed the tuning instructions to get it running good enough to drive a few miles to one of the best tuners of the FAST setup in the New England area. This mod was one of the best things I could have done to my car.

If you can find a used setup that is NON XFI, then go for it, The XFI options are for some serious racers and the older version does just as good for a street car.

Re: Can't decide? F.A.S.T or new efi

theres virtually no one here in ontario canada who still does obd1, just too much effort.

couldnt manage to come up for hte 6 or 7 grand for a fast system tho. As soon as i got my 355 sd hsr a little closer to how it should be, felt like 50 sotp horsepower at least, and its still not even close to where it should be. the tune is everything

6 or 7K?????????? I paid $1700 for a new bank to bank kit with wideband o2 and a single stage nitrous setup. granted it wasnt the new XFI stuff but it still did the job for me. look for older systems out there. they are cheap

Re: Can't decide? F.A.S.T or new efi

obd1 tunes at speed shops are rare these days. Odb2 tunes are more profitable because the aftermarket tools just simply override the sock computer.

as far as the accel gen 7 dfi....the speed shops are loving this system.
Fast is very dominant also(u can get a tune from basically any speed shop). My guys at www.force-efi.com in miami,fl can point you in the right direction. give them a shout they will take the time to guide you with the right kit.

i am not affiliated to the company listed above by any means!

FAST is the way to go .They have a sequential instead of bank to bank injection system with wide band tuning that cant be beat. Comp CAMS sells them give them a call.

Re: Can't decide? F.A.S.T or new efi

well I found the older setup the same year the new XFI came out. I think it was 05 or something. That is how I got it sheap. No one wanted the older stuff since there was something newer out there. Try asking around on the boards or even try calling FAST and see if they have something lying around. They may be able to put something together for you.
