Fuel pump for HSR...

If this is the wrong section...please move.

First off, I have a 383 Holley Stealthram built similiar to Orr's....
383, 11:1 compression, AFR 195 cc heads, ported HSR, custom cam 23x/24x at .56x lift on 111 lsa.

My question is...what fuel pump do I need to go with? I know Walbro has been having some trouble and was going to use one of those but now a little but scared. Nitrous will be installed at a later date but want to upgrade to enough fuel pump for future use...no more than a 150 shot. I've been using a stock AC Delco pump for right now and its been keeping up but I know I'm on a time table with it lasting.

Thanks guys for the help.

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

It depends on your fuel needs. What injectors are you running? I am running a walbro 255 with my 427 ls1 and it keeps up just fine. I have heard about quality issues from some of the guys on here, but I guess I got lucky. Mine has been in for about a year, and no problems yet.

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

the only issue with them is that they do not like to be semi submerged so You need to keep the tank always more than half-full, if You do a lot of cornering then even more, if this condition will be kept Walbro will do the job without any problem, oh and do not care when you'll hear noise from tank all the time, that's the way they work

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

The last time I checked the stock fuel lines are good for around 500 horse. I have never heard of the tank 1/2 full thing. I have run my tank down to the E several times for 5 years with a holley 255lph fuel pump and never had a problem. New to me

The problem I've been hearing with them is that they have been going bad after a few months. But Walbro has found the problem according to the Grand National site.

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

when did they find the problem? and the 3/8" fuel line will support 500hp without a prob. its when u go to 1/2" that is needed for 1000hp or sumthing insane. thats what the HSR said in the instructions or something about how the fuel rails are 1/2" ID and they can support over 1000hp.

so take never below 1/2... hmm at 10mpg im gona be pulling over alot lol

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

can you tell me when did they found the problem and fixed it because as far as i know whis was/is the problem that 255 is high-pressure high-volume fuel pump and if she gets just a bit of air she starts to makes problem, i know that because i forgot to refuel yesterday and i had a problem running the car, but just after refulling problem just disappeared

It had something do to with one of the bushings instead just breaking apart after time/heat when more psi was needed.

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

so it had nothing to do with the acutal pump working but just the bushing? thats ok to me... i spot tied it to the hardline/bracked in the tank anyway

Well...the bushing was inside the pump causing loss of psi...so yea...it had to do with the pump.

Re: Fuel pump for HSR...

Sorry i never seen this thread til now. I have the Racetronix kit, using the Walbro GSS340M kit with the hotwire kit.

I never really run my car with much more than 3/8 tank. Keep the weight down. Never had any problems. I had my car at the track with the tank on E and still spraying it never had a problem. Thats over 500whp. 10 seconds at over 127 mph. Now i bought this setup last summer i think it was. Not sure what else has changed since then but I'd go thru Racetronix if you havent already

My setup will be for sale since i will not need it. If you can wait i can pull it out for you. Not sure when that will be, probly over the next week if you want it soon but if not i wont be pulling it for alittle while

Yea....could have used it but I bought a kit off of ebay from a guy who flow tested my injectors about 2 years ago in NY. So...good shop and I got a 10% discount on ebay from him.

I saw where you are going turbo......what you doing with that nitrous system?

No date that I know of where it started and they fixed the problem with the help of the GN forum about a month ago.

Talk to racetronix if your interested in the Walbro pump stuff. They could tell you of any problems with those pumps. They are the most trusted vendor of those pumps that i know of. They are a sponsor on LS1tech. I've dealt with them for my pump and injectors and will continue to do business

Well, I installed one for the extra power and its not very loud as everyone says it is.....or maybe thats just the straight pipes talking until my two Powersticks make it in from Fedex.
