lt1 swapped tpi. check it out if you own one. pics inside

i have a sbc 350 w/ a lt1 intake. I did the conversion myself and all the machinening myself with the help of my dad. My car went 4 tenths faster in the 1/4 w/ just the intake upgrade, ive had some issues with it but i'm really happy with it. The only thing i hate are how all the houses and wires look in my bay.

I wanna see pictures of other sbc with lt1 intakes to see how you routed your stuff.

My car has had a lt1 intake for almost a year now, love it, but i'm tired of a messy bay soooo.....

Where did you source the slicone piece that adapts the throttle body to the 3" tubing?

Probably ebay, that's where I got mine:

I thin kit's 4" to 3" or 4 1/2 to 3"..

I don't have a miniram anymore, this is what I'm running now:

Oddly enough, the same adapter works on the LS1 throttle body because the outside diameter is the same. (just not oval, but thankfully it flexes to whatever shape I need)

WIRING LOOMS! If cleanliness is what you desire then wiring looms you must aquire! wires laid across valve covers and plenums? for shame! In looms they must go! mounted to firewalls and frames! Tidy it will be with wires out of sight. good day to you all and to all a good night.

Well my car came w/ a 305, i swapped it out with a 350, ran it w/ the tpi setup while i was working on the lt1 manifold. i had another block and heads laying around the house, that really helped me test fit it.

Now that i look back at it it wasnt that hard of a conversion, cheap and fast. i might have spent close to 180ish.
LT1 intake+fuel rails -> free
lt1 AFPR-> 100
remote tstat-> 70
misc hardware (hoses, fittings)-> 20-30
machine job->free, my dad is a machinist and we have miling machines at home

Go get some split loom, the plastic tube that the stock harness is in. Clean the plug wires up with some acetone, or replace them. I think you can get some at radio shack if you want new stuff, or the junkyard for way cheaper used stuff.

spark plug wires will be replaced, i'm going with a new "bay" theme, intake is now blue, i will probably get some black or blu wires and some black looms<- i like thast idea and some zipties.

I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE ON HERE WITH THE LT1 INTAKE, SO POST UP YOUR PICTURES. i would like to see them

LOL

it is not a real lt1. It used to be a tpi, but it has a modified lt1 intake, it has a distributor hole, and modified hole pattern, and water port. it is something pretty straight forward, check out www.lt1intake.com for more info. it is very simple to do if you have access to the right tools.

The only thing I don't like about this swap is the thermostat issue, other than that if I had TPI it would be this or a multiport setup. Good job!

Re: lt1 swapped tpi. check it out if you own one. pics inside

I bought it pre-modded from a board member for about $300 everything included
The intake holes were slightly off but nothing I couldnt handle

Its been on the racecar for about a year now, no issues

Whats everyones gripe with the remote thermo? Its extremely handy
You can literally mount it ANYWHERE
I had it in the initial position you see because I was too lazy to get more tubing and just used a few bits of original heater hose. A few weeks later I got longer hoses and mounted it on the framerail

The current project needs that area so Im moving it again to the cyl head

Id like to see you move a fixed thermo around like that

do what im building...a LT1 aluminum elbow and custom piping....so much better than whats offered for the tpi cars IMO

thats if your running MAP 91-92

:EDIT: im looking for someone to do a lt1 intake conversion relatively cheaply. i want to do it the right way and not have a hack like last one i bought from someone.

toyota h8r... nope i got a MAF car.... now goin with a 383 HSR with 58mm TB and grannelli MAF... and im making a new ram air straight into the plenum from my ram air II hood the one i made for my TPI wont work cuz the HSR is taller.

honestly im not sure but more than likely the 58mm tb is just a stock 48mm tb bored out w/ thicker walls so i'm sure you could make a 4" fit. Mines the stocker one bored out to 54mm

The engine bay is flat black so everything stands out, i ordered a blue throttle cable bracket like two weeks ago but apparently it was on backorder so i'm exchanging it for a red one tom. I also ordered the heater box without AC and i should get it tomorrow. My goal is to finish it tomorrow or at least get it started since i dont have to work or have no classes. We'll see

Those of you that have bought an intake already machined, where are you getting them? I've got an intake I can send out that's ready for conversion, just gotta find someone to do it.
