Big cap to small cap hei for stealthram.

I have searched, and havent found anything specific telling me whats involved. The car is an 85 z28 tpi w/ coil in cap, I would like to change the distributor to a later 87-92 style remote coil for use with the stealthram, or should i look to the aftermarket. Any help? Thank You.

I believe you can swtich to small cap hei if you buy a stock replacement for a 87+ tpib..and tbi i think is the same.I know there are adapter plugs to convert the wires going to the cap but not sure if it works for the esc module on the small cap.I think aftermarket might be an easier swap for you like msd..they have specific diagrams of the wires plugs that might help you.

Wish I had more answers for ya but I hope that helps get you a start.

The swap is simple. I used a brand new small cap I bought off E-bay for about $50. If you search for JP86SS he has a wiring diagram on his site. I believe you need 12+V switched power and one other wire. No wire adapters needed as long as you don't mind splicing, soldering, and heat shrinking the wires.

If you have the std electronic HEI dist with four wire connector you can get a large cap to small cap conversion harness here $15
http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonn..._pigtails.aspx

Mike can also do you the small cap dist 2 pin coil plug with a long pigtail to hook up the remote coil

As stated above use any F-body small cap dist and remote coil.
Pink 12V wire from HEI cap goes to coil +
White tacho wire goes to coil -
Pink and white on new pigtail go from coil to new dist
Adapter harness takes care of the ECM advance control side of things
