small cap distributor for hsr swap

i have an 86 camaro with the large coil in cap distributor from what i understand i need the small cap distributor to go with the hsr intake... The person that owned the car before me wallowed out the holes for the dist cap and really messed up the housing and the gear is about all chewed up so kinda planned on a new dist. anyway. my question is what all do i need to convert to the small cap remote coil distributor and what wiring will need to be changed...

Re: small cap distributor for hsr swap

I went to my local wreakage yard cut off the later style dist connector and coil wires, then cut off the old dist connector and used butt connectors to crimp it together, wires are even the same colors, its the cheapest/easiest way to go i didnt pay nothing for the connectors

You can get a nice set of connectors and not hack up the factory stuff from Jim's Performance. Just give him a call and he'll know what to send you. Bought mine a few years ago but I want to say... ~24$

The small cap distributor will work but you will find that it is a very tight fit as it will
Touch the back of the intake and limit how much u can turn it to adjust the timing.
I am still using it but will replace it soon as I get some more time to enjoy the car and feel like re wiring the ignition not something I'm looking forward to

You mean the HEI is a tight fit ?
Small cap dist has plenty of room which is why guys use it in HSR swaps

It is an hei cap but it has an externally mounted coil. They came stock on late model camaros and firebirds. Much smaller then the older HEI caps.

Why? That whole spark jumping thing is bogus at street RPMs.
