LT1 Intake swap-----

Hey guys,

I was about to buy a hsr.. when a buddy told me I could have his lt1 intake. I have seen many people have great luck with it, and pull some good power how the miniram works.

So I got a 96 lt1 intake ported to 58mm and a bbk 58mm TB.

I have done lots of reading on the swap.
I don't want to cut the hole myself, lt1intake is long gone. I'm looking for someone who has done this swap to cut if for me,

Anyone?

I did see a guy made a template off a stock tpi base. But my problem is making that 1/4" shim with the 5 degree angle.

Ideas?

I plan to run this intake on a set of afr 195s

Doesnt cost much at all to have a competent machine shop do that, it has to be right on the money or youll have issues with your dist gear.

I don't think cutting the hole is as big deal as you make it sound, as long as it's in the right area the shaft will align itself in the hole just a matter of getting the proper hight with the shim and angle if you want a nice flat non-leak seal. Though you really got to ask yourself is it's worth the trouble over getting a HSR which is why you rarely see this swap anymore.

No disrespect intended but....
if you not comfortable with cutting the big hole in the back then maybe this swap just isn't for you. Maybe you should go with something that's a direct bolt on.

FYI for those interested in LT1 intake - thirdgen.org member Z69 was selling the 5 degree angled washers for the rear dizzy a few months ago.

Re: LT1 Intake swap-----

None of these replies are very helpful. I believe he was asking for a member or the name of a machine shop that has a jig to correctly place the hole. I would be very interested in this as well. Lt1s are cool but optispark and 4th gen wiring sounds terrible. If i could pay someone to drill a hole and mill off the egr (not hack it off) i could bolt in an lt1 under the hood w my distributor and 3rd gen harness by reusing my tpi electronics. Anyone know anyone who could do this

It is too bad no one offers this service anymore. I would be interested in a setup as well.

Re: LT1 Intake swap-----

Personally if you're going to do this I'd go to the phone book/net/whatever and find a local machine shop, tell them what you're wanting to do and see if they'll handle it. The outer most bolts of the LT-1 intake are the same as a production 350, so that's where your reference point should be. Grab another SBC intake, use those holes to locate the dizzy hole and then go to town with it.

PS:

Another thing you LT-1 guys can do is go the exact OPPOSITE of the LT-1 intake swap and convert a gen I manifold over to fit the LT-1. That means you can stuff one in say a TBI car or use a TPI/HSR intake if you wanted to.

The LT1 intake swap is dead these days unless you can save $$$ by doing all the work yourself
The HSR is a very cost effective bolt on install with no need for extra plumbing and weird adaptions

My Victor E SP intake came off a LT1, PO enlarged the holes and used thick washers.
He was using the Opti as a spark trigger only with a rear mount dist for the plug wires ; best of both worlds.
