i what part of the intake did u have to cut ? got any pics of how urs showed up ?

my first one was halfway decent the second needed a bunch more work then the first

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

The most grinding needed was on the end most runners on each side. I swear porting this intake is almost exactly like porting a cylinder head. To smooth it out I've had to take out almost more than a 1/4 inch and blend it in some spots.

u didnt take the taper out of the runner did ya ? i ended up doing the entire runner on mine to keep the nice taper from top to bottom

if u did take out the taper id be curious to see what results u get in the lower rpm range

are u going to radius the runner inlets under the plenum?found a guy who did some testing on one of these and picked up 35+ cfm just by radiusing the inlets

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

I'm trying to get the runners to flow as straight a shot as possible yet keep them the same width as possible. From what i saw with the intake set on the heads (that are already ported) the walls closest to the pushrod pinch almost formed a soft "W" and in my mind would cause a nasty flow imbalance. So i'm trying to straighten that up as much as possible in the intake before it even reaches the head. I am indeed doing a soft radius at the top of the runners. I'm even doing the same to the outlet of the upper plenum as well.

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

keep us posted on ur progress , im working with a friend on doing something pretty radical on the runner entrys , for a high rpm 406sb

think a 4-1 header collector with a bullet in the center

something along these lines with the runner shortened 1-2 inches

with a nice trumpet bellmouth on the outer walls , which in order to get round we will have to machine down the outer walls and machine a billet piece to put back and weld into place

and on top will be a rather large custom plenum , the bellmouths will either be flat to the floor or raised 1 inchabove depending on what we come up with on his flow bench

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

Nice. I'm not trying to go that extreme but just trying to maximize what is already there. My engine is an LT355, balanced stock crank with shot peened rods with an ARP rod bolt upgrade, stage 1 ported heads (runner pinch opened up to 1.07 with full bowl, guide and chamber work) xfi268 cam. I'm seriously thinking about putting a GT45 on this motor so piston selection is still up in the air. As far as the intake goes i'm also thinking about after all the portwork is finished, knocking out the bolt pillars and welding the upper plenum to the lower and making it a one piece.

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

here's what I started with, you can see from the outlines of the LT1 gasket I had quite a bit to go through to get it to match up. Truthfully, if someone wanted to just swap this intake onto a stock LT1 it would match up fairly closely without really any porting.

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

Carbide got away? What do you mean? If you are refering to the slight raise in one of the runners I didn't have much choice. Thats how far off it was stock. One side was almost dead on , the other side seemed like the runners were raised higher so i had to compensate. As far as the upper plenum goes, i hit it with a 60 grit on my mouse sander to knock the polish off and rough it up. I had some cast aluminum VHT paint left over from a set of headers i did awhile back so i used that. Luckily it was almost a dead match.

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

ahh i see it now i didnt see it the first time around on ur layout pics.
without seeing that picture it look like the carbide bit in on ya and went to far was going to give u a tip to keep that from happening on aluminum

that plenum looks so much better like that i may have to do the same or i may just have it painted the same color as the car is getting painted

i wish the plenum came witht he same finish my valve covers did

Re: new chinesse 285$ hsr

Those covers look sick. Overall I'm happy with the intake. I would've had to port a regular HSR the same way so its all good. If you haven't cut the top plenum yet be careful because it is SOFT. My bits chopped through it quick. I had to work very gingerly not to go to far. I'm still debating on knocking out the towers and just welding down the upper plenum.
The only one gripe i have with it though is that the stock bolts for my rails (the same as you have and the same ones that also work for the procomp/speedmaster Single plane efi intake) WILL NOT work. The pitch was wrong but upon inspection 1/4-20 bolts work fine and thread up tight. Also, I have to find out what size/pitch the tb mounting bolts are as the stock ones won't work either. I did find that stock TBI bolts thread up so if you know the pitch on them let me know.

Not surprised on the TB the HSR is very picky about which TB it uses. I have 3 here only 1 fit. As a dumb question, I was expecting some comparison pics between the HSR and the knockoff since you said you had both. How does the CSA of the runners compare? It seems smaller stock but ports out bigger on the Chinese one.

i never got the chance to do a side by side since i had to ship it back
if someone else wants to measure an untouched hsr i do have another untouched china hsr on the shelf , i ended up with 3 of them lmao , i can do measurements just about every inch from plenum to head

i think it would do pretty damn well , im helping a friend prep one for a high reving 406

its tought to beat a good efi single plane though too, if u can port it urself id go with the hsr on the 406 as it would be alot cheaper

let me see if i still have the pictures , if not i can take some more tommorow

here san important note , this intake will not clear a stock hood , my amd 4inch steel cowl hood does not clear either , most fiberglass cowl hoods should be fine

my amd hood has a finished underside with a cutout for a 14 inch air cleaner , i need to trim about an inch of the opening for it to clear the throttle body

if u trim the underside of the stock hood it should fit just fine

How did you get your rails to seat all the way down? Even with stock injectors sitting flush in the holes myrails sit literally a 1/4 inch to high. Plus, how did you run your regulator? It seems that these damn rails didn't come with enough fittings.

had to tap mine down with a rubber mallet to fully seat the injectors into the intake/rails , u have to enlarge the mounting hole sin the rails a lil bit

my regulator is remote mounted near the stut tower above the were the factory hard lines meet the factory rubber lines

napa made me my lines from the rail to the regulator was 27$ for 3 ft of hose + the 2 -8 fittings

from the regulator to the return line im just using fuel injection hose to the factory feed line that has been converted to be the return line

im also running the crossover on the back of the intake not the front , if u make a line 2 inches longer then what the rails come with it fits and clears the distribuor

both my feed line and return line feeding the regulator are on the front of the intake instead of the back

Re: new Chinese 285$ hsr

Here are a few pic if you need any more let me know. The holes in the rails need to be drilled i had to go pretty big on mine to fit. I ran a 90 degree elbow off my passenger side rail and put my reg on it. The fuel rails didn't come with enough fittings to do everything i suggest getting 2 90 degree pipe to an fittings just for clearance but it depends on where you want to run your lines front or back. USE teflon tape on the pipe fittings trust me lol

Re: new Chinese 285$ hsr

The regulator works good i have no complaints but i need to go standalone to control all this extra air I'm looking at the EBL4. I bought the Vortec HSR. Project89 had both at one time and ended up using the china special because he could do more amazing porting as you can see from the pics.

Fuel lines. Not sure what waterneck guys are using.

Figure another $150 or so.

I wish the chinese would knock off the proflo xt manifold.

Same as the HSR. This might be a little beyond your ability. Might want to read more.

Re: new Chinese 285$ hsr

I just ordered this "HSR" as well. was uncertain which route to take with my 87 lb9, but this seems to take the cake by using the stock throttle body.

For the money, assuming you bought the $200 chinese one it's a good deal.
