Turning a 383 into a 459: the magic of VE!
I just accidentally clicked a saved link to the RCS Racing Engines 383 Crate motor that includes a TPI-style FIRST fuel injection intake and noticed their statement that at the engines torque peak, it saw slightly more than 120% volumetric efficiency. (It’s trapping 120% as much air in the cylinders as it’s displacement.)
383 cubic inches * 1.2 = 459.6 Cubic inches worth of trapped air. A TPI style, long runner, 2nd harmonic tunes intake gave the 383 more trapped air than a 454 Big Block Chevy running at 100% VE.
Long Live Long-Runner, 2nd Harmonic-tuned Intakes: giving small blocks big block torque since 1985!
