After 8 years of sitting, I’ve got the Z28tt back on the road and starting lots of upgrades. Got my Emtron this week, and now looking at fabbing something so I could run a drive by wire throttle body. My plan was to get an Edelbrock elbow for the LS2 90mm tb and Accel Pro Ram intake manifold. Seemed easier than trying to add a DBW motor and twin tps to my 4150 throttle body. Clearance is tight vertically to the hood and also the water neck filler. I might fab up a sheet metal elbow, if I have to.
Is there such a thing as a low profile water filler neck? Maybe I could cut and weld a fitting to angle it forward instead of up? Or weld on a -16 bung facing forward?
Has anyone been down this road before?
Scope creep strikes yet again. I also am trying to fit on a 60-2 crank trigger wheel, probably will go with the Holley wheel and fab a bracket for a VR sensor. All because I’m rich at idle and wanted sequential injection.
I’ve got a huge list of things to fix and un-hack, but it’s fun to have it running again. This was my first car when I was 17!
Re: Forward facing elbow with single plane possible?
In an attempt to fit a HSR under an uncut firebird hood I reduced the overall height of the intake by approx. 1/2", a little here, a little there. I ran into the issue of the thermostat housing coming into contact with the bottom of my TB. I bought one of
, figured out how I need to clock it then I JB welded the two pieces together and milled off the appropriate amount of the water mounting flange, I will say this is still untested as the car isn't running yet but there still seems a good amount of material left of the base thickness to resist warping, we'll see
Re: Forward facing elbow with single plane possible?
Thanks, 91banditt2. Good luck!
I could do something similar to my water neck if I needed to. Or just machine a flatter billet one and offset the tstat to the side. I’ll wait until I the LS2 throttle body to test with. Might have to end up welding a sheet metal throttle elbow.
