paint repair.....
Ive got a good many chips and scratches on my cars paint so i would like to know the procedure and materials to effectively touch up those spots. Also when i got my car painted....never get a $600 paint job......it looks ok....but when you look at yourself through the car...it looks fuzzy and i was wondering if some 3M rubbing compound would help out? New paint job wont be happening any time soon so any advice is gonna be a great help. Next paint job estimates in at $4000+ to change color back to original. oh yeah...something good to strip off wax so i can put on a new coat.
all cheap paint jobs will allways look fuzzy, the only time your going to get a mirror, glass like shine is with a clearcoat paint that has been completly finished by hand, which costs a few grand

This is painted without using any clear, the color sanding and buffing is what makes the surface smooth and shiney.

You gotta be really careful when using rubbing compound, though. You can really mess up your paint if you don't know what you're doing. Getting a good shine is much the same as anything else....practice makes perfect. GKK obviously has the technique down-pat. Great job!!
1,000 grit sand paper soaked in water
Super fine, you sand it untill everything is a mirror flat surface, it will reflect light cleaner, and make a deep quality looking paint job
Or it will fix some idiot painters paint runs that makes your car look like chit

I'd hate to mislead, you I've never personally done it, yes its hand sanding, but I dont know what the steps after you're done with it is. I'd clean it up, buff it, clearcoat it, and cut/buff that.
Thats what I assume would be appropriate after color sanding

Can't see much other than red wheels
I saw my new paint job for the first time saturday, it was just done with its last clear coat, I was severly disapointed
I dont even want the car any more, its so shaddy...
It was a 3 stage pearlecent "med red" (maroon) Looked like a hella cool color, but the painter couldn't have finger painted his way out of preschool, he really screwed up my car.

Paint repair day one
Its 230 in the morning here and i just got a taste of whats ahead of me.....alot of work
I went to wallyworld and spent $62 on an orbital buffer, turtle wax rubbing compound, meguiars gold glass wax, chip/scratch repair kit, red scratch paint, extra buffer pads, good tire stuff, armor all high shine, rubber undercoating, for the wheelwells and some other misc stuff. Ive been at it for 2hours and im almost done with the hood. Im really taking my time and after applying the rubbing compound (which is a really painstaking process) and buffing it then applying the wax to one side of the hood and buffing it, it looks REALLY NICE. You can really see the difference in the two sides. This is a painstaking process but i dont have to drive my car so im taking all the time i need. Tommorow i order front blackouts. This was just a test run and when i get up and go see about registering for college my goal tommorow is to touch up all the scratches and dings. That really is what takes the longest. Ill keep everyone posted and maybe ill be able to take so pics when im through. This project im expecting to last at least a week since i work and stuff. Im going to bed now.

1,000 is very rough for wet sanding. most rubbing compounds will only work on stuff finer than 1500 (1800, 2000, ect). Be very careful about wet sanding single stage metallics. While you can wet sand them to be ultra smooth as seen above, you usually end up losing color fastness due to the flakes settling on a different layer than the color/intermixedclear I did not heed the warnings and now I'm going to have to go out and respray my panels and I'm also picking up some clear coat. It's a mirror shine but some parts are more black and some parts are more metallic!
well, instead of taking a few days, since i was off today i went at it from 9:00 till 4:30. Im not 100% satisfied but whoever is. Blackouts come in tommorow so that should help set the front off a little better. Tommorow i detail the inside. Thatll be fun

speaking of blackouts I have a set and was wondering if you guys knew where I could get a new hardware kit for them since GTS went out o business thanks
sorry bout your paint tpi_roc....i know how a sucky paint job can make ya feel. I hope the blackouts will draw some of the attention away from the lower front ground effect that is kinda busted up. This should be the pic from today hopefully....let me know if yall get this pic please so i can decide if im doin this right

got the blackouts on today and im kinda dissapointed. They are the ventshades version. Te predetermined spots that the sticky tape was on were totally off......only one would stick on both driver and pasengers side. I bought some doublesided tape to help hold it on. To test it out i got up to 80mph and they stayed on, but yall can bet that there gonna here from me tommorow. They look pretty good on the car but $40 is too much for it if they wont even go on right. Whats something i could do to keep them on better till i here something from them?
