Problem w/ tire-shine kick-up...
Problem w/ tire-shine kick-up...
Guys-
Anyone else get this problem?
I use Meguires tire-shine on my tires to give em that nice, wet look after a good wash and detail.. but I'm running across a recurring problem...
If I drive the car within 1-2 hours of having put it on, I get all kinds of kick-up from the wheels onto the body... like dozens and dozens of little dots of it all over... and it's getting annoying, cuz I have to wipe it off every single time (can't let it sit there and bake in the sun, or it gets really hard to get off..)
Anyway, is there a better brand out there?
I thought Meguire's was suppose to be pretty high quality stuff..
Any trick I can do to prevent this?

Yeah, that's why I stop using tire shine, though you might want to try and put less on it, maybe that might help.

Didn't help too much, it's still kicking up...

Never heard of that stuff... Meguires is pretty well known.
I'm not sure if any brand beats it...

You're using way too much then. Apply a squeeze to a damp rag, and then rub the rag together to distribute it evenly. That should be enough to do two tires. Then apply a little more (but not as much as the first time) and do the other two.

It's not really called Purple Crap/Junk
It's something like High Gloss or something like that, but the liquid is purple.

dude, i do this and it works every time. first off you have to clean the tire of all the old tire shine, i use steel wool with that bleache white whitewall spray. that cleans the tire up very well, then you apply just a little of the meguires gel, i use that eagle tire spray, but its all in moderation. you dont need a whole lot to look good. i usually let it set in the sun for about 30 minutes before i go cruisin somewhere, and when i do i usually keep it slow for the first few miles. i dont want that crap spraying all over my paneling.

Let it dry.
I use Black Magic, which is great, and if it does kick up, use some Quick Detailer to take it off.

I think no matter what you use, you should let it have some time to kinda dry out. I use good 'ole armorall and those sponge thingys made to the sidewall of the tire, works pretty good...

Black Magic with the curved sponge tire brush works. Not too much and not too wet. Just the right ammount. Take it from me. I detail cars professionally. Many shops/dealers are going away from the too wet look.

yea the purple crap does kick up alot. my brother uses that alot on his 2 camaro's. i used it a few times and yes it does last long but is messy. i like to use the castrol tire shine. spray it on let it dry for 15 mins and wala dry and looks great. and it doesnt kick up. or u could try the miguires rubber and vyinal (spellin) shine. and just spray sum on a adapter pad and spread it around and looks good for a about 3-4 days depending on how much u drive it. but i like the castrol tire shine alot. thats my 2 cents.

se this stuff called jett wett it gives you an aesome shine and you just have t spray it on but with whatever tire shine you use make sure you rub t into the tire after you put it on then let it sit for lik 30 mins to and hour
I use a product by turtle wax, its called "tire gel" I think... but you get a 'pad' with it so you can scrub it on. It never kicks up crap on my paint. Also leaves a nice shine that stays on forever.
I always used Armor All extreme Tire shine, scrub the tires down with comet and a bristle brush while washing the car, then put the car in the garage, and apply the tire shine right before I go to sleep. Wake up, stuff's good and dry, unbelievably shiny, doesn't spin off.

I use Malco Ultra-Cote 2 (dealer product) and I just wipe it off about 15 minutes after I spray the tire. I just let it soak in a little bit
I use blackmagic too

You're probably using too much, try those applicator things. I bought them and they work pretty good.

Being a former detailer of cars and knowing what silicone does to paint, the only thing I PERSONALLY can tell you is that I run into the same problem. I use nothing but Meguiars High Gloss purple gel along with the eagle one tire swipes, and even after I let it "set up", I still get the dots on my paneling. The trick I do is I keep some fresh towels and some Number 34, Meguiars Final Inspection in my car at all times. Then, wherever I am, when I notice the dots in my sides and such, I spray the solution on the area, wipe it well, and turn the cloth over and wipe dry. That usually takes care of evrything straight away. If tghey come back, they are usually lighter and not as noticeable. Give that a try and see what happens.

I use that black magic stuff. I haven't really had any problems with it spraying on the sides of the car. It's usually the last thing I do after I wash my car. Spray it on, let it set for bout 5 min, wipe off excess, and hit the road. AND it smells like cherry
. It's a pointless additive to the stuff, but damn, it smells good, lol.
