Sorry for the confusion. on the link you have to scroll down where it says "Firebird Pictures"...my car is the last on on the 1970-the gold with black vinyl top. Since these pics were taken I have replaced the steering wheel with a 73 Formula wheel, repainted my rally 2s, and replaced the lame retangular air cleaner with a chrome 14". The car has dual 2 1/2 inch pipes running through resonators...no muffler. I sounds pist.
70 Firebird
My future plans (way in the future) is to upgrade to a 455 CID...which will fit right in the engine compartment. The current engine is a 350 that is putting out performance times comparable to a 70 LT-1. What it lacks in HP...it makes up in torque (380lbs) --thanks to Pontiac's 3.75 inch stroke. Since the block is overbore 30 over at 3.92 inches (compared to 4.0 in bore in a Chevy)... I am not giving up much to the Chevy.
I am currently running a 6.9 sec 0-60---and that's with a stock open 2:73 rear end. With a 3:23 or 3:73 ratio and traction improvment...I would probably be able to shave a full second off my 1/4.

A little tip, you don't want to gear pontiac motors too deep because of the low end torque you want to take advantage of. I would say a perfect gear would be from 3.23 to 3.55. Those are great gears for pontiac motors.
But I know how you feel with the open rear on the car. I have the same in my LeMans. But hey those one-tire bonfires are the best for smoke shows.

black85transam-I'm telling you that would be sweet if you had a "real" pontiac motor in your car. Torque like you wouldnt believe.
Thanks Camaro for the advice
The 70 Firebird 350 motor runs as smooth a caddy @ 100 mph thanks to the balance job. I am really happy with the torque/performance. The shift kit on the TH350 actually shifts cleaner than the 700R4 on my IROC. The traction off the line is a bit of a problem..thus I get better times when I get into it 2/3 throttle...then hammer once the car gets rolling 10mph.
Delimma: Believe it or not...my Power Steering pump pulley wore out the other over 3 weeks ago (down time)...and I learn that the 1970 Firebird PS Pulley AND Pump isn't interchangable with other years 67-69 nor the 71-74 models. I have been working with a professional parts supplier in Michigan to find the EXACT Pulley using the # that is stamped on the pulley itself...wouldn't you know it...THEY SENT ME THE WRONG PULLEY! : ( Now I am back to square 1---this time I am going to INSIST on verifying that the Part # matches my part number. THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS THAT YOU HAVE TO "HOLD THEIR HAND" AND HELP THEM DO THE JOB---that they should be doing in the first place. Going on 1 month down for this darn pulley...I am going through "withdrawal" symptoms.

Yeah, the pontiac torque can be a problem when racing, but most of the guys I know just use it to show off.
Can you say smoke show?
Can you say smoke show? Bird
Yeah
It's really surprising the speed that the Firebird can get up and move...and that's without Posi. It's a different feel than today's computer controlled-EFI controled cars. With those resonators howling down the road--sans a muffler...I feel like I am flying a P-51 Mustang into combat.
