Anyone here have a weekend warrior?

I'm so sick and tired of hearing I don't drive my car enough

From a conversation with my friend:

"how can you love it that much and not drive it?"

"you put all your time, money and love into that car.......
if I put all that into a car, which is meant to be driven, I'd drive it every second I could"

"Old people have sunday cars not young kids with a racing passion"

"but why wouldn't you.... you only drive it 4 months out of the year......"

"It's just that I can't see owning such a sweet *** car and then saying "I'll leave my 5.7 beast in the garage today and take the Pontiac 6000""

"wear and tear is what a car is for"

"but If I spend money and buy a car I'm gonna use it!"

"ok, but do you WANT to drive it all the time and just don't because you want to keep it mint, or just don't drive it because it don't get your jollys off that much?"

I paid for the car, I pay the outrageous insurance amounts for being 18. I drive the car enough for my own pleasure, so leave me alone-errrrr

I agree and disagree with driving a car once in a while. If I had a junker, I would only drive my IROC on nice days i.e. warm and sunny, no rain, sleet, or snow. I would store it for the winter and drive it from mid-April through mid-October.

I disagree with people who drive it like once a month. If you have a nice car, cruise with it. You don't have to race and put wear and tear on the engine- just cruise around.

But I also agree that if you buy the car, then you can drive it whenever you damn well please.

Thank You! That is when I drive mine, only with nice weather! Maybe weekend warrior was the wrong term to use.

"If you have a nice car, cruise with it."

True! Too bad everyone wants to go and are like "PIN IT, PIN IT, PIN IT" Every 5 minutes and like to touch everything in site

Its not everyone, just certain people I know my cars no Z06 or anything, im not actin like my cars *** like. I just had to rant tonight. Some People can't accept I drive it once in a while. I must drive it every single day!

But I don't drive like a granny either. When I do drive it, and a pony pulls up next to me at a red light, you better believe there's going to be tire marks on the road! :lala:

By the way MetalliCamaroRS, I gotta get my fans fixed, they don't wanna turn on. You better watch out

I used to like driving mine all the time. Now I don't like driving it unless it's sunny and nice out. Just doesn't handle well in inclement weather.

Sometimes are just not practical as daily drives. My car used to be because it was the only car I had at the time. I think only driving my car twice a week makes me appreciate it more. When it was a daily driver I didnt treat it as nice.

Plus I feel safer with it being at home. Last time I took it out the top got slashed and stereo stolen.

I only drive my IROC when I have to but it is my daily driver. I am easy on it. It has never been in the snow and I rode the bus to school for 3 months so I wouldnt have to drive it in the snow. Now that my bro has his license and a truck he can drive me to school the winter of my senior year and I don't have to ride the bus anymore. I drive my car only on rainy days to get to school or work. If I don't have either I just stay home or borrow my parents Eagle Vision. I once had to listen to a friend bitch about driving because I made him come pick me up when it was raining. I have saved some money and I'm buyin an 87 (I think) Shelby Dodge Charger with a turbo from a friend for $400 for my winter car later this year. The IROC stays in the garage. I make my dad park his beat up 89 Ford Ranger outside so my car can be in the garage with the Vision.

My fans haven't been working for a while, but now suddenly they have started. I ordered my new Hypertech 180* fan switch yesterday, so I'll have it soon.

Hopefully this winter I'll be able to afford a winter beater and the IROC will be stored. But, thats hopefully.

I completely agree with you. It's who's car again? *YOUR* car.

A few things I can think of...

1)should they not make Camaros again(grave mistake, but it could happen) it'd be a classic, it deserves that kind of treatment. Even still, there were only a few IROC-Z's and I doubt there ever will be again.

2)I know exactly what you're saying, every time someone is in my car they're like "C'mon, show me what it's got!". I almost got a wreckless driving ticket for "Showing someone what it's got".

3)"wear and tear is what a car is for" LOL, yeah, let's say you go out and buy an Aston Martin DB7 Volante... would you drive it every second you could? I know you would want to, but you don't want to see your pride and joy get hosed. At least that's how I am. My car looks like total crap on the outside, and still, I don't drive it but to skool, home, maybe pep boys or a friends house. I make sure she gets up to 220*, and oil pressure starts to drop before I go to skool too.

And on insurance, I can only imagine. I'm 16 and my '87 Z28 is registered as a *BASE* model Camaro(that's what was on the title the guy gave me) and it's like 416$ ever 6 months. I can only imagine what it would be on a '88 IROC-Z.

Sooo, all in all, it's your car, it's a d@mn fine specimen of what a 3rd gen Camaro should be, be proud of her, cherish her, and should you take it out one day and pull up next to one of these supposed "friends" of yours, I think you know what to do

 Rock on IROC-er

Don't get me wrong I love when it rains, but the TT2's don't. Gotta keep'em clean, they were'nt cheap and those water spots are a *itch to get off. Guess thats the price I pay for lookin good.

Well I can relate to that kind of criscism. My 82 Z28 is my weekend warrior, but I get the occasion urge to drive to work or to the grocery store during the week, but not much. I usually drive my 89 RS most everyday, which is my daily driver of choice. I love getting on the freeway after work, and even though the air conditioner works perfectly, I spool down the windows and cruise with wind blowing my hair!!(weather permitting, of course ) and I love driving that car. But what actually gets me the most cristism is the fact that I have a 2000 Z71 with only 16,000 miles( I bought it in Nov of 1999) on it. I use it to pull my '82 to the track, and I do drive it some to work, but I really prefer driving the RS. When the Mrs. and I go out to eat in the evenings, or go places on the weekends, or out of town, we usually take her 2000 Malibu, so the truck, beside the 82, is the less frequently used vehicle I have, and most people say, "Man, if I had a new Z71, I'd be in it all the time!",but like some of the people said above, Its all about personal preference. At this rate, My truck would have less than 100,000 miles on it if I kept it 10 years, so my plan is to hang on to it after I pay it off, take care of it, and I will have a great tow rig that will last a long time, and after we pay her car off, we'll probably get a Tahoe or Yukon, or at least that's the plan, Who knows!!??

me personally i love to drive my iroc everywhere i go expect ruff roads. i have other beaters but when i drive those i always compare it to my iroc, i catch myself sayin if i was in the iroc i could have pass that car or this car understeers something terrible. i feel like it's my duty to drive it, cuz most camaro i c r buckets and it's too many rustangs out here who think just because they're newer that they won the race before it start. i'm there to let them know ur goin to have to work to be this 1.:nono:

it's go time baby!!!

You'd be surprised, its not that bad. My 1992 RS with a V8 was $476/6 months and when I got my 1989 IROC-Z with a 5.7L TPI V8, it jumped a whopping $4.00. I was surprised, but hey, I won't complain.

My 91 Z28 droptop very rarely sees rain, and NEVER snow - that's what my Celebrity is for. However, it does get raced, so it's no show queen either. I just don't want to get too much rust-introducing water (liquid or ice form) on it.
BTW, insurance on it costs me $18/month, liability. Obviously that'll jump if i were to go to full coverage, but i can't afford that for now. So, it's liability for me now.

I just spent a year and 12k fixing up this IROC. I have waited 17 years to own this car and it is only driven once a week or so. I think it would be beaten up if I drove it to work daily. However alot of my friends have "garage cars" We only bring them out when we feel like it. Plus I dont need to baby car seats in the back of the Camaro so I will leave it as a weekend car.
To hell with anyone that disagrees.

man i need the insurance companies u guys are with. i am almost 19 with a clear record no tickets until 2 1/2 months ago but my car wasnt workin then and i was pay exaclty 626.78 every 6 months. i have the good studentrate to and that is just liability! they said i was more at risk for racing and showing off. true to that but damn i have no money left for mods. as for a weekend warrior i leave that for my dads torino and my el camino. mine 86 berl is a daily driver cuz its all i have.

Well I don't drive mine much either with no heater, 4.10's soon, and 11.5:1 compression. But I do take it out when I insure it and cruise around.

Damn,
1200a year for one car. I dont miss being young (kinda) I am 33 Married with kids. My insurance here in Houston is 1600 a year for full coverage on my 2000 Mustang GT, 99 Expedition and of course the IROC is a huge 26 dollars a month for liability.
Be patient and get older, married or move.

This one only gets driven in nice weather if I can help it. I drive it to work once in a while because that's mainly the only time I'm on the road by myself. Also take it on long trips once or twice a year.

my sport coupe is my summer toy. if i need to drive it during the winter, then i will.

but otherwise, if i move somewhere where the weather is nice year round, the sc is my long-term project, and i'll get a nice thirdgen for a daily driver. or a truck.

personally iroc, if my car was as nice as yours, i would drive the same amount that you do. however, it isn't, so i can drive it daily and not feel bad about ruining a potential collector piece.

so drive your car as often as you want, i respect you for keeping such a nice vehicle.

i also say the same to metallicamaro. you both have sharp cars, and i hope that someday, my sc will be just as nice

insurance wise, my parents are insuring my car, and i pay them. i'll be paying about 900 a year for liability, but i am considering adding theft when i start putting a lot of money into it.

and don, i have to say, beautiful recaro t/a

Weekends and Local Shows Only. I about cried when it hit 60k on the odometer

Unrestored 85 TPI Recaro T/A's dont grow on trees. I would love to have another to drive daily, maybe a V6 S/E

Most of the time its under a cover in the garage.

It's kinda like your girlfriend that you see only once every few weeks or so
