It's polished; it just is hard to get a good pic of...

I striped the clear coat off, started at 60 and went up to 400 grid sand paper to take off the machining lines then I buffed them with a buffing wheel, I'll try to get a better pic. There a lot shinier in real life.

Before and After pic

The front rim is polished, the back is just clear coat stripped

Back rim = before
Front rim = After

That's why I set one weekend aside for each wheel. When I came back from college I would do one wheel at a time. I couldn't imagine sitting down and doing all 4 at once.

That was my plan too... but I didn't finish my first one, and haven't been able to get myself back to it. Thursday I'll finish it and start one, Saturday I'll finish the second and start a third hopefully. I wish I had a digicam to take pics of them

It took me 3-4 hours for each... If you want to speed up the job you will need an orbital sander and a "mouse" sander.

I'm at 800 grit with about 6.5 hours invested. Still need to do more 800, 1000, 1500, 1500 wet. I'm at 6.5 hours cause when I was at 400, I realized I missed a few spots, so went back to 180 and back up again

I can probably do the next one in 5 hours.. I'm doing mine by hand BTW.

I like polished aluminum better than chrome in most cases. Kinda messed up you gotta go around with some polished and some not while you're working on them.

I'm in the same boat. I'm currently rolling around with one polished wheel. The first one took about 5 hrs., used the mouse on 60 through 220, but uhumm, hand jobbed the rest, 300-2000.

Maybe I'll do another tomorrow. [shrugs].

Primer: Dupli-Color Sandable Primer
Paint: Glossy Black Krylon Indoor/Outdoor paint for the two "veins" in each spoke and Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating (Graphte) for the triangle areas. I might also clear over the paint, but I'm not sure. For the clear I have Dupli-Color High Performance Wheel Coating in Clearcoat. Hope this helps!

Thats all the exact same stuff I'm using, Weird. I'll probably finish mine tomorrow, 2 days off, woohoo.

Has any one cleared over the polished aluminum? The one I have polished seems to be doing good with no clearcoat so far. It's been over a week also. Mark, anyone?
