hey guys,
just got in from putting the red underglow light kit on my 87 iroc..
it was kinda one of those spur of the moment things...a customer came in that had ordered a blue kit, when we opened it up SUPRISE it was red...he didnt want it so i had two choices...send it back or keep it and order a new one...so i kept it , i thought what the hell lets try this..
if i only know what i was getting myself into..i didnt do it at my shop but in my driveway(first mistake) and the wiring it comes with...man oh man what a headache...but in the end they work and now im just waiting for dark so i can see the outcome, ill get pics and post them...
if anyone is looking into doing a kit like this..ill write up a tech article on how i did it with side notes on how to do it better and smoother!!

iroc2nv,
That post was just out of order! j/k
You can't post that and NOT have pictures.
I've just ordered red neons today, and was a little fearful of posting a request for pictures due to the flaming that goes on around this type of post. So..I bottled it completely, you didn't. 'nuff respect.
Gimme pictures, like now!

uh
Under car neons are cool, IFFF you can't see the bulbs. What brand did you get? I am gonna get some Street Glow when I get enough cash.
was "uh" supposed to be "uk"?
Got mine ordered from a UK company called litewave. The standard 4 tubes for about $220 equivalent. Seems to be the going rate in the UK. (Off subject slightly, but window tints for 20% are about $300...They don't like the hatch window at all!)

EDIT- By the way; Nice car; Uk.

well,
i couldnt wait til it was dark, and i swear it waited until the last possible minute to get dark (it was like almost 10:00pm est) before it got dark, i was going nuts...anyways...she looks pretty sweet but i was thinking it was going to be alot brighter, mind you its pretty bright but i was expecting brighter (maybe the colour) i got them from toucan industries, i got the package for $250 canadian for the customer taxes in so if you can do the math its like $165 for the kit plus markup!! the irocs have room just under the side skirts that hide the bulbs pretty nice and the rear and front well my back rebar is kinda well its really non existant and the front has that skirt kit on it so it doesnt have a front bumper so i just mounted it to the place where the bumper used to sit(brackets), my gf has a digital camera so well see if that works tonight!! and hopefully if not ill have to take real ones and scan them...ill do a day/night shot so everyone know the diff of my car!!
til then ill leave you in waiting..hehe (shouldnt be that long, tuesday the latest)

iroc2nv,
Now you're teasing....
Any chance you could get some shots of how/where you mounted them. I'll be doing mine next weekend.
Thanks.
mike1986fyrbird,
Thanks for the comment on the car.

Hey try and take your car to a fairly lighted parking lot. Just turn your parking lights on cuz well your parked. Leave the headlights off. That way we can see the car and the camera could get some good shots so we can see those cool *** red neons.

Iroc2nv: Lighting kit looks good. Especially for only one set. Kandisomethingor other has a couple sets on his car and it doesnt seem that bright. Maybe he is using something else.
Neons are overrated, and dont put out much light...
What my brother did on his firebird, was take 2 huge fog lamps, spray painted them the color he wanted, and mounted them bad boys under there, not only does it light under the car, but the whole road too!

i don't wanna light up the whole damn road. street glow is the original and the brightest as far as i've seen.
autozone and some other places have started offering little tubes you can stick anywhere and people have put them in, out, under, they look lame to me.
i mounted my switch in one of those spare gray slots that come under the instrument cluster.

ok guys,
heres the scoop.
i took pics last night in a parking lot...with a disposable camera...
nothing came out...so tomorrow i will go to the same place with a GOOD camera and do the same...although i must warn you, i have been waiting for my new eagle alloys to come in for like 3 weeks and they arent in yet so im stuck with firebird 6cyl wheels and tires on her just so i can move her in and out of my shop when i need to...so pay no attention to the *ugly* wheels...not ugly on firebirds, ugly on irocs..
thursday post of like 6-10 pics at least..
ciao

the only bashing im doing or flaming how ever u want it. is about how he ruiened a perfectly good iroc. in another post people thought that he just photoshopped it on there and well i never finished readin that post so i dont know if iroc2nv posted anything else on there but when i saw the out lines from the neons. then i believe he did that. and im not flaming on neon lights either becuz soon ill be gettin either blue or green for my black z28.
taking pics involves alot of elements; all of which i haven't figured out.........as far as my red set, they are lowglow.....they are very bright at night and fill the underneath very well.
now my yellow kit is streetglow and gives off the same amount of glow. i recently removed my yellow kit and replaced it with white which looks terrific with the red. figured 3 sets was a bit much.
anyway, neons look great and can really set the car apart if done tastefully.
here is a pic of mine that was spoken of above.........keep in mind that it is at an indoor car show with really bright lights so obviously it won't show bright! enjoy.....

hey kandied u know what would also do good on ur car is if u shaved the door locks and handles. now that would look sweet and it looks like u already shaved the antenna. y not the handles and locks?
you could notice the antenna huh.........the first person ever!! very cool
as far as the handles and locks.....personally i kind of like the look of the car with the handles.... i did think about doing the locks but i figured i might as well leave them in as i want my car to be custom but not so much that it causes me problems. i'm very happy with the way it is.
i've had cars with shaved handles and they are all good and fun for a while but eventually it becomes more of a pain then its worth.

I have a Hot Red Gold Series from Street Glow under my car.... it looks a lot like Kandied91z's car.... excpet with an antenna... and mine is painted Ferrari red w/ black racing stripes...... and its dropped a few more inches. It really looks like you riding on a cloud of light. (Insert Evil Laugh Here)
And to the person who dictated this as being RICE:
How are UNIVERSAL lights rice?
This whole import thing bothers me..... cause I know many import drivers who's cars would smoke many people that talk **** about them on here.
Its so sad. = _ (

Pics of my red neons
At a neon contest I sapped some shots of my car. Sorry there is a blur I should have used the 800 speed film. I had the camera set to night mode with the flash disabled. It really slows down the shutter speed. You can't even breathe or it blurs.

Redraif your car looks killer in those pictures. I honestly like it better at night. I would love to make my car look like it's floating on air like that. Problem is it's going to have so much HP I'll probably breakem.
Again that car is awsome w/ that lighting.

Thanks we worked our butts off to get the glow that even.
If you are worried about the HP twisting your frame enough to kill a tube, get the subframe connectors. They are a saving grace. They are awesome. The car is so smooth and no body flexing and creaking. Heck, I can't tell how fast I'm going on the hwy w/o looking anymore. Its just that smooth.
Kandied91Z has a quick car and has had no problems with his tubes. He has multiple kits like me and has had them for much longer. I know he still takes his car to the track, so there you go. You can have both.

WOW, I THOUGHT MORE PEOPLE WOULD POST PICS. I HAVE A WHITE IROC AND WAS WONDERING WHAT COLOR WOULD LOOK THE BEST. BLUE, RED. PERHAPS PURPLE.........
Yeah, I already have SFC's got 'em last year, but I'm expectin' my baby to hit a wheelie. 'sides she more go than show I've seen a really suped up 'stang that could put out some serious HP but the guy wouldn't run her on the track- just show her. Ima gonna abuse my baby and get my adrenaline pumped and can't be worried about a few bumps
