spedo will not work
spedo will not work
Hey Guys totally new to your forum and in the process of putting together an 86 Iroc but ran into a snag. when I purchased this car, the speedo would not work, it has some other minor flaws too but all n all good condition. So I replaced the cluster guages and still it will not work. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be the speed sensor? If so where is located on this car does anyone know for sure? Also a buddy told me about a trick using a paperclip to get error codes does anyone know that trick and would they be willing to explain it to me??confused:

Your speedometer cable is probably broken somewhere. Most likely right where it connects to the speedo gears.
Unscrew it from the transmission (it's at the rear of the transmission on driver's side) and see if the square peg goes into the square hole. If it does, twirl it with your fingers and have someone watch the speedo and see if the needle bounces.
You'll probably have to replace the cable. It's a fairly easy job, just not fun.

Oh almost forgot: you can find out how to pull codes in the tech articles section of this very site.

ps. To answer your question, it's not the speed sensor. That only feeds the ECM. The speedometers in 86 Camaros are cable driven.
