What Else Will Fly Off My Car!!!1

Less than a month ago one of my hood louvers flies off the car. Now today I get home, my GF comes in later and says what happened to your tail light blackouts? I'm like ok, she said one is missing. I guess this fu(kin 100* weather loosened the driver's side one up and it flew off some time on my way home. I just ripped the other one off being pissed off. I only paid $15 for them used, but still they're expensive to replace, and I liked the way they looked.

Maybe the driver's door.

I hate it when you come home and notice something is missing and you'll never get it back.

"I got tired of people pullin up and askin me what I had under the hood so I just took the damn thing off..." haha

When you reach Ramming Speed in the Mustang the doors, hood and trunk hatch will fly off!! Then after leaving flame marks on the road, you will take off, gain altitude and head for the moon!!! Bring me back some cheese eh??

Mabey your new shinney wheels are marking their territory and picking on the smaller car parts. I'd keep an eye on those bab boys.

one time in my 83 i was driving and the hood release got pulled so it was partially opened, and it may sound dumb but all the air going under the hood seemed to make the car run faster, i wouldnt do it again though

Mark: I have more sympathy for the people behind you when your parts are flying off

My sister had a patio stone fall off a truck.
Hit the top of her hood and 'luckily' went through the passenger side of the front windshield.

dude,

i just hope your exaust doesnt fall off(i noticed you only have one hanger holding that puppy on..cat back) but look on the bright side...weight reduction is always been key to our cars to create speed!! and now with all these parts flying off maybe shes telling you she feels FAT??

I think I'm going to Polish my tail lights now. It's a perfect time to do it. Only thing is I have to get that sticky tape crap off the lenses now.

I know the feeling. I don't think those Hood louvers are rated for 90+MPH. I hit 92 the other day and my right one flew off. Yikes!! My wife thinks my hatch is next in line...

if they are not attatched all the way it will fly off.
mine did that when i was up arround the 115-120 range one day.
but if they are on right they will not fly off at those speeds.
i knew mine was going to fly because i would watch it flap up at around 90mph. i just didn't do anything about it.

I feel your pain.

I lost my tail light covers also, or rather they got stolen.

One of my louvers blew off at 100 mph on the interstate.

And for one of the worst weeks of my life.....I broke up with my girlfriend on a Tuesday, I wrecked my car on Wednesday and on Thursday, while driving down the road my $400 Iroc Turbo Hood, which I had just purchased, went airborn and flew up and over the guardrail because the wreck on the previous day kept my hood from latching. I just pulled over to the side of the road and looked down the embankment and cried. Lucky for me the company I did business with gave me a brand new one for free. I guess they felt sorry for me

So see, your not alone

Help w\Mounting new Louver

While we are on the topic of flying hood louvers, what the heck do you use to mount them? I have one and a half left on my '89 Iroc. I just got another exact replacement from Year One. I took a look under the hood, and some moron had glued the hood louvers on from underneath. Something tells me that Glue is not the preffered mounting method. The new louver did not include mounting HW. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,
Andy

I assume the new louver has the usual studs molded into the underside? You need to get the original style stamped nuts to attach the new louver to your hood. They are probably still available from GM, as they are more than likely used for more applications than just IROC hood louvers. The nuts are constructed of a thin sheetmetal, and they cut their own threads as they are installed on the non-threaded studs that are on the louvers.

Thanks Matt! I thought there had to be something more involved than glue!! If it was a Rustang, I could understand them using Glue, but not in a Camaro!!

Thanks again!

Yeppirs, as Matt was saying they use the cut nuts, you can get them at most any auto parts store in the help! section, they come in a little multipack. When I refinished my hood louvers a while ago, I also put some RTV on the pegs so that it sealed well from the elements, as well as the nuts did not back them selves off. They have been great for over a year now. Altough that hood just came off the car this past week in favor of a cervini's 2" cowl.

Well you dont have hood pins but I voted for the hood flying off. I knew a dude with a thirdgen that was painted 3 different colors from different parts. Someone got mad at the dude and pulled his hood pins out. He drove down street and the hood poped up and stuck in the windsheild. Man I wish I had some pix of that.

you can also get GTS blackouts from auto zone or advance, if they dont have them in stock, you can always order them, my friend bought some for his s10 and only paid 20 bucks, check out your local autozone!

ok well the only thing that flew off my car was the center piece of my rear window louvers, and i wasnt driving, my dad borrowed my car to go to work and when he returned home i walk outside and almost began to cry, well not realy but u get the picture. So i walk in and ask him how fast he was going, he said just a lil over the speed limit, as in 130mph. so now i am going to just take it off as soon as i can get my rear window tinted. Also i just got my new Ramair II hood today and it looks awsome.

Mark, if it makes you feel any better, one of my chrome lugnuts decided to jump off my car somewhere on the highway. I'll probably just go buy 20 new ones tomorrrow. Put some duct tape on those louvers when you get them back on!
