Window tinting
Window tinting
Does anyone know anything about window tinting?
I wanna get my windows tinted out but I don't have a clue.....I know there are different methods of doing it but I don't what they are. And I definately don't want to end up with bubble tint like you see on all those ghetto rigged rice burners.
So does anyone know what the different methods are and what is the price differences and why you would use one method over another?
Thanx for any info.

Oooooooooohhhhhh, okay. I thought you were looking for tips on
how to do it yourself, and let me tell you, that is not worth it. Go
for a high quality tint. A lot of companies will have several grades
of tint. Don't settle for the cheapest. Most will also warranty their
work. The tint I got on my Honda has a 5 year warranty against
discoloring, and bubbling. Ask about that kind of stuff...
And most importantly... NEVER USE WINDEX TO CLEAN YOUR TINT!!
That is what turns it purple.

Oh and here's another question.
Does anyone know how dark the tint is allowed to be in pennsylvania?
I know there are restrictions.....but once again I'm a little foggy on the subject.

I would avoid dyed film. Even with the best care it will purple over time. I had mine black for 7-8 years before it purpled. I used cleaners that are tint safe, no ammonia. You want vinager based I believe.
A tint guy told me tint and paint both fade the same way. The yellow fades out first leaving you with a bluer/reder cast. Hense purple. Red paint will always get bluer/darker. Blues get purpler.
Anyway, I have been told to go with some of the new metal tints, (not chrome or gold) actual black tint that has metal in it. It reflects UV better and lasts longer. It not suposed to purple because it is not dyed.
Make sure they warenty the work and clean the back glass properly. Tell them ahead of time you would rather not have a seam. If they have to, seam it on a defroster line w/o a huge overlap.
Mine was done crappy. Trash in the back glass and a huge seam that is no where near the defroster lines.
