2000 SS Should I??????

My dad is so evil! I'm not really in any position to buy a "newer" car but he tells me about this 00 SS he seen. So of course have to go look at it and basically i have fallen in love with it! And this is without driving it, that would then def. put me over the edge! But anyhoo, it's a 2000 SS with t-tops,air,leather,chrome wheels, Wings West GFX, Flowmaster exhaust and some other lil mods!! Has 29,000 miles and they want 21,990! I think this is a lil high! Any thoughts???? I love my 3rd gen but damn this car is sweet! Any thought/suggestions?????

spend the money on your 3rdgen.....I'm sure for 22k you could have one hell of a 3rdgen (you could have an LS1 and T56 installed and still have money left over!)

well that's what i'd do anyways...

yeah... you would think that by the 4th gens they would've fixed the problems with t-tops... but a friend of my dad bought a 2002 with t-tops and it leaked the first time it rained. Spend the money on your 3rd gen

Do you have any idea how bad azz your thirdgen is gonna be $21k later? Sure, you ca go fast NOW in the 4th gen, but you wont be able to do anything to it later since you'll be paying on it for a awhile.

21k You know what I would do with that. I would buy a 89 Formula Firebird and spend the rest of the money hopping up a 1st or 2nt gen Trans Am! Dont let'em hook ya.

Eventhough I'm in awe every time I see one. I couldn't justify buying one. Impossible to work on. Don't look as good. Don't handle as well.
Like said imagine what $20k in your car could do.
Or a TTA. That would be sweet.

First, he would have to pay cash to have 20K. They would nopt give him a loan for the 3rd gen that high. They are a pain to work on, the insurance will probably be through the roof. And look at it this way, if you do have a car payment now, it is lower than what the 4th gen would be. I would rather have a decent car and money than a great car and no money, but that is just me.

One more vote for spending money on the thirdgen....

Insurance has to be killer on one of those....

Here is a break down for ya. Lets say you can make your engine last 150,000 miles atleast right. Now you alread own your third gen so no money spent out of the 20,000 for the 4th gen. Now a new top of the line create motor+ trans lets say 5000 installed (to make the math a bit easier. Now 5000 goes into 20k 4 times. 4times 150,000 for each drive train is....600,000 miles before you start spending money over the 4th gen. You would undoubtedly sold it by then so this isn't even a concern. Stick with what you have and make it better.

This is very true for the engine and transmission, but you always got to remember that the Camaro SS will have a better re-sell value if you ever get rid of it......

Also take into account that the SS probally has alot more features (leather, t-tops, chrome rims, ss hood, warranty......). Still you could get all that stuff for your car WAY below $21,000.....

That's a tough one. I took my 87 iroc off insurance and purchased a 01 ss for a daily driver. I like the looks of my thirdgen better, but wanted a more reliable car with warranty for my daily driver. I love the ss, but at times I wish I bought a beater and hopped up the thirden...I like them much better than the fourth gens. Anyway, insurance will be jacked on the fourth gen and you'll have to start worrying about the monthlies. The ss is a great car and Gm did a great job, so you can't go wrong with your decision. However, nothing beats a modded thirdgen in my opinion. Good luck!
