Shaving Door handles

I've heard that you can use fiberglass to fill in the hole for the door handle, but will it hold up as well as welding a metal plate in? I've never seen it done before w/ fiberglass and I'm just a little concerned that it might crack or warp and fall out after I get the car repainted. Also, is Autoloc the best brand for door poppers, or should I look somewhere else? Thanks, Joe

shaved doors (old topic)

This topic has been discussed alot in the past. Do a search and you will find answers to all your questions. I believe that there are a couple thirdgen people running around with shaved doors, you could always PM them.

Hope you find what your looking for.

Never use fiberglass to fill holes, or bond fiberglass to steel...it will crack eventually. Redraif and I shaved her door handles, lock cylinders, gas filler, and antenna. Autoloc is fine for door poppers. Check her site for some of the details:

I have VPA door poppers. A far as who is better. I don't know. I'm only familiar with what I used. We welded my old handle indentions. And then used a small amount of fiberglass filler and then topped it with a skim of bondo.

Pardon me for being retarded, but I've just started noticing shaved door handles on several different rides and I was curious as to how you lock/ open your doors? I think it looks cool so please don't think I'm stupid.

One way is that the door poppers themselves unlocks the door from the latch as it 'pops' open the door. THe poppers are remotely controlled like any keyless entry or security system.

I really don't know of when it locks and but it might just be manually activated, but then again if there is no handle or lock on the outside then as soon as you close the door it is "locked" if you don't have the remote.

the door doesn't lock (unless you have power locks that activated with your alarm or whatever). But since there's no door handle, it's not like somebody could walk up and open the door. As to how it works, the "poppers" are actually springs that you mount in the door frame that help pop the door open when it unlatches. Then you have a solenoid that is used to pull the latch, just like pulling up on the door handle would do.

You guys are correct. On Shannon's (Redraif's) car, there is no need to use the locks, which we also shaved. The only lock left on the car is for the hatch, just in case something goes wrong with the system (dead battery, bad relay, etc). There is no longer any need to lock the doors.

Not necessarily, but if you don't have automatic locks I would disable the locks entirely.
