How much is my car worth? Contemplating selling her

I am at the point that I want more power and tired of dealing with every week link that thirdgens have. I am looking for a 97' SS or an early LS1. I want a car that comes fast and has strong parts. I would do a motor swap but than I am afraid that my T-5 would fall apart since they were only designed for 300 Lb-ft of torque. My lo3 now is probably close to that but a 300+hp 350 would just rip it up. Anyways my mods are in my sig and I am the second owner of the car with every reciept down to the origonal window sticker. I was thinking of starting at $12,000 and getting talked down to $10,000. Am I being unreasonable? The car has never been in the snow and is only driven three to four months out of the year (both owners). I have attached some pics. I only set my price so high because of all the money I have put into it.

You'll never get 10 grand for that car.

Sure, it is a very nice looking car. Even with the low miles.. it just isn't worth that much.

When it comes down to it only an enthusiast would pay that much for any third gen... and an enthusiast is going to want something that can be a performer. Sadly... an RS isn't going to be much of a performer without lots of work.

I only set my price so high because of all the money I have put into it.
Thats rule #1 about F-bodies... put all the money into them you want and enjoy it... but you will never get it back when you sell it.

Car payments, higher insurance, low resale value of 3rd Gen, LS1 in 3rd Gen is even cooler, T56 transmission........

I was thinkin of an LT1 swap which would be cool. But at the same time it would be a headache and a half. I will most likey save for that T56 they make for our cars and get the 330hp crate 350 and get the vorteck TBI intake and custom chip to get it to work. That way I don't have to rewire anything and I can reuse all of my other accesories. I recently saw an LS1 1999 Z that they were asking on $11,000 for it. That is so freakin tempting. I have seen an LS1 swap in thirdgens and it was a HUGE PITA! T least with an LT1 you can get a shortblock and do an LT4 conversion for like 2 grand and have 420+HP.

The rims stay with the car because I sold the old ones and Wheels + Lowering + recentering the rear with suspension stuff = $2600. Another reason why I would set the price high. I haven't even had most of these mods on for a year. Basically a 6k to 7k car with 3 grand in wheels and suspension, a grand for exhaust, 5 hundred for ignition and intake stuff (including all K&N filters, about a grand for stereo.

Unless its to a F-body maniac, sorry, not happening. Aftermarket stuff, unless its major, dosen't increase a car's resale value unless its to an enthusiast buyer. Hopefully that's who you'll find though, because it'd be sad to see that car go to an owner who dosen't fully appreciate it.

if i were in your position i know what i would do....just start saving for a lt1 and a six speed....also put your car up in the local auto trader type thing....you know those lil free car catalog things that have all the cars and prices....and just ask say 10,500....i was lookin through one today and saw 2 91's both at that price.....but anyways......if you end up selling it....awesome you have a fast LS1 car.....if you dont sell it.......you still were saving $$ so you can make yours fast....i mean what do you got to loose....just a few bucks a month for the ad....just my 2cents:lala:

Yeah, I am getting no where near the money and time I spent into my Camaro when I sell it. The Camaro I actually put so much time into it and I'm selling the body for $900

The only reason why I thought about selling her was because if I could get what i wanted out of her i would buy an LT1 or an LS1 for the exact price. Kinda like a trade straight up. If i were to get like 12 grand out of her i would get an LT1 for like 10k and put 2 grand right into her. I am just dissheartened because I have put so much effort into this car (learning and wrenching) and she is only just as fast as some of these pathetic ricers, right off the showroom floor. I geuss I am spoiled because my roomate has a brand new SS with SLP options and it makes thirdgens look like trash. His car makes mine look like it is powered by a briggs and straton 4hp lawnmower engine. It is absolutly discusting how hard his car pulls and accelerates. I love my car and the way it looks but I am afraid to race people. Any chevy "muscle car owner" should never fear a race. Sadly enough I am sure that this is something all RS owners think about when they line up against your "average vehicle" on the street. "boy won't I feel stupid when grandma spanks me in her regal." I wish I had a dollar for every person that has looked at my car and said "wow this thing must kill vettes", and I (not one to lie) has to say "well honestly.......it will barely beat your stock civic, but she looks good right?" I want a car to perform like it looks!!!! I spent close to $600 for headers just to say "well I geuss there is a difference?" It is hard to deal with the fact that technically the LO3 is bigger in displacement than 90% of all motors in production now and you have 4 bangers pushing 240 HP. I have been wronged and I want to be freaked out every time I hit the gas pedal. I hope you feel my pain. So enough about me lets talk about you

I ran into the same thing when I had an LG4. Everyone at school was saying "Man you drive that Z28, right? I bet that thing hauls..."

I'd just say "not exactly" and leave it at that..heh.

An engine swap changed everything.

A $2,000 crate engine will put your RS somewhere between a LT1 and an LS1. Sure beats spending $10,000 and paying a boatload more for insurance and speed parts.
