changed my stripe and messed it up, suggestions?

i didnt like how my stripe went down so much so i cut off a test piece and it came off no problems... so i went ahead and did the rest, i measured and pulled it off.. well the left half of the stripe pulled off the paint along with it. over all i still like it much better the way i made it even though it needs a little work. here is an after pic

i bought some spray that maches my color of my car and painted over it but i can still see the intentaiion where the paint came off and i also painted a little bit of the bottom of the stripe.. im planning on sanding it down to smooth it out and respray it... is this a bad idea?
