I'd say if only those spots are bad and the rest looks great, do some of your own prep work on those pieces and then have Maaco spray them, then after a while, get some nice polish (try that Zaino or Formula 113 stuff) and take an entire day detailing the car.

Keep in mind that car shows usually have VERY nice cars. A *decent* paint job won't get you laughed at by cruise-night patrons, but at a car show a cheap paint job will stick out like a sore thumb. Actually, any car with a dirty engine bay and original, high milage interior is probably going to wind up getting singled out like a redheaded stepchild. This isn't meant to discourage you from entering shows, but just be open-minded about some of the reactions and comments that you'll be likely to overhear.

My IROC has nice paint, a very clean interior and an interior that's getting better all the time. I've put it in a couple cruise nights with great response from onlookers, but I still realize that my car is not a show quality car yet. I even feel out of place at cruise nights half the time.

I have a 1991 RS and have gone to a couple Camaro-only car shows. I'll admit my car isn't perfect but I have got 4th place in my class, beating two other people. I have some rust, a dented side mirror and some other things. I would recommend that anyone ( Jim85IROC) take their car to a show and have it judged, it is a good way to find out where you stand. Yes, the cars at shows are really nice, but not all of them are perfect. So what I am trying to say is that your car doesn't have to be perfect to do decent at a show. Also most car shows have a "Display Only" class.

I think you should takre you car to a car show no matter what, i mean look at all those imports there, and atleast around here half of the imports at the carshows are painted with spray paint. Just show them what a real car is compaired to the imports

I know where mine stands. I go to a lot of shows, and I find a lot of cars that in my eyes are not show-quality cars. My car will be in shows eventually, but not yet. Not until I don't have to keep making excuses for the interior.

Do the prep work yourself, especially of you go there. You'll save money and learn some stuff doing some stuff yourself.

If you do all the prep yourself, a Maaco job can turn out ok. They are decent enough at spraying paint, but they do cut corners with prep work, and their paint is a low quality single stage. If you aren't keeping the car forever, it might be an ok way to go, but if you care about it and want to show it, have someone spray it with decent materials...say a base clear from any reputable paint company (Spies-Hecker, which is my favorite, or DuPont, PPG, Azko Nobel...just use all products from the same manufacturer to stay out of trouble with adhesion). It'll cost more, but look much better.

If you have more time than money, you might want to enroll in a votec school paint and body class.

If you think your car is what's preventing you from getting laid, you're going to be in for a rude awakening after Maaco rolls on a nice coat of Semigloss house paint and you're still riding solo.

I'd recommend buying a couple cans of flat black spray paint, and going crazy with them
