Anyone have locking lug nut adapter for an 89 GTA
I am needing to take off my wheels and I dont want a shop to have to do a hack job on my car. So, does anyone have an adapter laying around that they dont need?
Thanks,

When I went to have tires put on my car the shop wanted to charge me $50.00 to cut my lockers off. And they said they would have to wait till the next day to get to it. SO, I went out in to the parking lot and got a socket that was one size too small for the lug nut, pound that b*tch on there and then take it off. It beats paying someone to cut it off or wasting time looking for a tool. Make sure all the other lugs are really tight before you try to back the locker off, If all others are tight it will make it easier to get the locker off. If you loosen the others first, you will surely strip the lug. IT IS NOT HARD!!!! Just follow the directions I told you. Hope this helps Jason

go to a parts store...and ask if the have the 'emergency' locking nuts adapter. I know the O'Reilly's here in town has one.
It has 'reverse' threads on the inside of the 'adapter' that lock down on the existing locking nuts and will pull them right off....don't force or bust anything till you try this....think they cost about $8 to $10 for the set of two...

I did the same thing that bad84z did the one time I lost my key.I used either a 11/16th or 13/16th long socket banged it on and used both a breaker bar ,which attaches to sockets, and my socket wrench to get the lock nut off the rest of the way.

13/16, 6 sided. It's perfect, 12 sided will strip the bolt....

See, I am not the only one who has done it. Sometimes you havn't got time to hunt for a lug key. Besides, where are you going to find one. I tried junk yards and everything when I first got my car with no luck. Then I forgot I needed one until I went to get the tires changed. I was going to buy that reverse threaded one posted above, but the guy at the parts store said he had tried it on the lockers and it didn't work. I thought it was a pretty good when I thought of it. The money it saved me. $50.00
The look on the guys faces at the tire shop who told me it wont work. PRICELESS
I could be wrong here, but I'd bet you could get the key at a GM dealer, altho you might have to try them all. My guess is that the parts dept knows exactly what to do, may even have a master set to find the right one, or something.

You may also might want to try the Gator grip socket.Someone said in another thread that it works. I don't know how well,if at all,if it puts enough torque on the lugnut. It may also be too big to fit inbetween the lugnut's surrounding walls.
