Wow...this is insane. You have to read these posts about what some stupid mechanic did to a new Cobra. I hope this guy gets canned.
http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...threadid=19809
I know this is off topic, but I feel it's very important to read this, and there isn't anywhere else to address it. You have to read the posts to see how many people are actually replying to this.
EDIT: It appears that both boards have crashed due to the traffic the sites where getting. Apparently the link has been posted on almost every major car enthusiast site around. I'll try to sum it up for you.
Lady brings in her Mustang Cobra(I believe an 02)complaining of a problem with the cats. Mechanic takes car out to abandoned airstrip and thrashes on the car, going about 140 mph. Does a very stupid thing, and posts on a Mustang board, even goes so far as to say the plate number on it. She finds out, and that's about all I've heard so far, I believe the mechanic was fired.
That's as far as I got, the sites must have crashed while I was posting it here.

Tapdancing Christ.
That's INSANE. I was going to go over to my parents' place on Friday to help them pick out a ford focus...jesus, that's DEFINITELY not happening after I mention this.
Here comes another cavalier out on the streets..

I feel that the dealer system should be seriously looked at by major manufacturers and overhauled. These people represent the company they are selling for. Many people get a bad impression of Ford, GM, even import places before they even leave the lot. Sadly, if a particular dealership is a "bad seed", this can ruin the reputation of automotive companies.
Not only should that guy be fired, but the dealership should have it's SVT status revoked, and have some sort of fine slapped against it for it's carless attitude toward this lady and her vehicle.
I'm just getting done reading the origional post that this mechanic made, and goddam, I'm pissed. I for one have had similar issues with the dealer I bought my car from, and refuse to go back there. Ever. Short form of the story is they felt it neccesary to put almost 200 miles on my car for a "test drive". I'm sick of dealers who think they can screw people because they think there's a sucker born every minute. I for one am happy this guy got busted. By a lady, who owns a Cobra, who posts on a Mustang MB, and takes an interest in the performance of her car. Talk about breaking stereotypes.
Sorry to go off on a rant here, but I know first hand what it's like to be jacked around by a dealer.

Jeeez some people are just plain dumb. Ive always hesitate to take my car in anywhere. Ive learned to fix things on my own. If I do have to take something in, man I want to be able to trust the person. Even still I try and look at the job their doing.
That's just sad....

Holy crap. The amount of support Tracy is getting is amazing.
Thirdgens, Mustangs, Civics, Acuras, Corvettes, 4x4s, bikers, BMWs, Integras, J-Bodies..... it's everywhere!
I certainly hope that guy gets nailed.

I can't believe teh people who have said "I trash my car, so no big deal" WTF!!! It's YOUR car to trash, not theres. if they can't afford a nice/fast car to trash thats there problem. one of my idiot friends did the same thing to a 96' Trans Am WS6, took it over 120mph, and slid a corner and wrecked it. $6000 worth of damage. and yet he had the ***** to say "Those cars aren't very powerful", like I said I don't like this kid, he is a moron. :-)

What a dumb ***. That tech is lucky that wasn't my car. If I'd caught him doing that to my Z, I would have probably broken both his legs as soon as he got out of the car. Even when I was working on cars for Dodge, I never did that even though the thought ran through my mind every time I got a Viper out back. It's just flat out direspect and this puck should be taught a lesson.

I have a similar story.
Friend of mine has a Mustang. Dropped it at the dealership (Fremont Ford, I believe) for an oil change at 8 AM. Reset the trip odometer, didn't even look at the mileage. Picked up the car at 4 PM, trip odometer says 315 miles! Seems they needed some parts at a dealership in Sacramento, so the employee loaded up the mustang and made a delivery! They apologized and gave him some coupons for free oil changes (like he's gonna bring it back there).
I also knew a mechanic at a local Mazda dealership that used to abuse customer cars mercilessly. They'd give him 8 hours to do a 30,000 mile tune-up. He'd bang it out in 2 hours and thrash the car for the rest of the day. Pulled in front of my house one day, sideways, all four locked up (rx7), donuts, dirt roads, etc.
He was eventually fired for this, but only after a few years of doing this.
Just another reason to do the work yourself.

That's terrible. I would be upset if a mechanic did that to my car. I used to hang around a shop that serviced Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Porsches, etc. The mechanics there don't even rev up the engines. They bring the cars in, fix what ever is wrong, and then gently parks them outsides. All mechanics should have that sort of respect regardless of what kind of car you drive. I hope the lady sues that mechanic.
Sue the dealership.. Show them they need to respect the customer more. The Ford Dealership here, Greenway Ford has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I take my explorer half way across town for anything if I have to take it.
WOW, that thing is ALL over the internet.....
Amazing.....
bikers, escorts, hondas, dodge, everybody has been looking at that and sending e-mails to the dealership.
HA....
WE NEED MORE COOL SMILIES

What an idiot. That crap really pisses me off. I read most of the first page and that was enough. I hope she rips the "tech" a new azzhole.
My bud took his truck in for an alignment today. I just happened to be out that direction this morning and saw some grease monkey running the **** out of it. After he went flying past me in my bud's truck I sped up and got next to him. When he looked over at me I waved and then went to my bud's work and told him about. He knew he was busted when he saw me giving him the look.

Ive only taken my car in for one repair, and I made sure nothing like that could possibly happen.

Enthusiasts everywhere unite! lol. My bud with the truck I mentioned earlier is a member at www.moparchat.com. I'll have him post a link there too. May not accomplish anything, but it can't hurt either.

Yeah the tech got fired, hopefully that girl does pursue more legal action.......It's one thing to take a car out to test it out...........It's another to beat the hell out of it and then go 140 mph.........
The moving company that was hired to transport Missy Elliots Lamborghani Diablo had a similar incident, they allowed one of the movers to take it for a drive, needless to say he crashed the car and totalled it.........
She sued them and put the ENTIRE company out of business.....
That thread has about 65,000 views on it already......

I'm the same way with my car. When the engine is cold I baby it and never take it above 2000 rpm until its warmed up. I hardly ever go WOT in my car unless its worth it which isnt often. And if I took it to a tech and found out he topped my car out and beat it, id almost feel like all my babying was a waste. Id raise hell!

That's one reason why I don't let anyone work on my car except for me and my dad. I don't let anyone drive it either except my dad very very rarely.

I am still in shock over all this. I will say, good for everyone that came together despite the differences they may have to show support. Yet another reason why i always work on my own car. I do have one guy i go too under extreme cases, but he is a 55 year old christian i go to church with, so i doubt he is abusing my car much
yeah, i wanna put the limiter on my car, too
No one does work on my car either, except my brother, my dad and me. They're both a lot more skilled than i at the moment so i have no trouble working with them. They take the care to make sure it's fine, but they go around the block in 4-5 minutes.
I let my girlfriend drive my old 87 IROC once..... once, i was in the passenger seat grabbing onto the seatbelt saying over and over in my head "please g0d... please g0d...". But halfway down the beach she was like "are you ok?... do you wanna drive?" and within the first second i was like "yep! and got to the driver's side
" lol i can't imagine putting my thridgen into the hands of a tech. I'm going to school for ASE Certification and i'm gonna be working at a Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler dealership for 2 years as an internship... but believe me... i would have TONS more respect for a customer's car. For 1, i need my thirdgen the way they need their cars, and 2, i'd be scared that something wuold happen to it and i'd be out of a job.. not to mention that **** going on some kinda record of mine. Plus i wanna grow in my career... i don't wanna stay at these dealership... i would like to go to a private garage for a bit.. and get as many certifications that i could, i mean, working for an exotic car company would be awesome. Like Ferrari and such....
That "tech" is an *******. There's at least one in every crowd that gives us all a bad name.

) finally put the motor in the car it ran like shiat, I could eaisly tell the rockers needed to be adjusted and asked him about it 'oh the valve seals just need to seat until then the motor will knock like that. So I took it another garage close to his and told the guy I think the rockers need to be adjusted properly. The new guy had the car for a day and I came back and asked him if he had fixed it yet. He said that car is messedup "the computer is giving me ten codes 9 of them I have never heard of, so I asked him what they were. Well the first one was showing it had a dead ecm, the next one said there was a fault with the ign wiring system...ect (i dont want to remember all of the bs). I was like no way in hell can you get codes you never heard of,so I got my code scanner and proved the only reall code the car was giving was 32 for the egr and he said my scaner was broken.. Yeah right. Then I asked out of couriosity how much will it cost to fix? Well i'm gonna need to replace the computer, completly rewire the car, and you need a new motor... I can do all of that for 5000.00
Now I couldnt believe he tried to rip me just cause I was 17 and didnt know a ton about cars yet. Then I asked for my keys and left with the car. Once I got it back home I got online and found out how to adjust them myself, and that fixed the motor and it has ran perfectly since I did that. I know there are quite a few good mechanics out there but the bad ones screw it up for everyone. Whew I feel better now that I finished that rant.

About the Cobra. By the time I got there the thread were so long I never made it thru the whole thing. I was amazed to see the support from every car community. Itwas quite amazing. I was appauled that someone would do that to a cumstomers car. Then to brag about it and have that attitude. I hope she gets a new car out of it and Ford yanks the dealers status to teach them a lesson about customer service. I could not believe they thought firing the guy was enough!
In my case, I guess having a V-6 I never really had to worry about it. Now Joe and I do the work, so the only one making the car work for it is me.

That's why I stopped going to dealers, or anywhere that some numbnut could get his hands on my car. I won't leave it anywhere, no matter how long the wait. On my 95Z that I used to have (bought new), whenever I took it in for warranty work I would throw a low RPM chip (about 2000 or so) in my MSD6AL. That way they couldn't get too nuts with it, esp with my 4.10 gears. I once got a call from the service tech, saying they replaced my smog pump but that the car was having ignition problems, and wouldn't rev up like it should. I told them not to worry about it, that I would take care of that myself!
OO, the jackass lives in Texas....I should get out the Dodge and go run over him.
What are people thinking when they do that? Now, I've gone out and put nearly 100 miles on a 97 Camaro, JUST joyriding (I did not speed however), the car is my mother's and I was driving it while my car was in the shop. ._.
When my car goes into the shop, I give them a total of 3 - 5 hours to call me, then I start ringing in every hour on the hour.
Even the paint and body shop doesn't mess around with me or my car. (Hell, I drove by the paint shop EVERY. DAY. until I got my car back. Even Sunday when they were closed, so I dare anyone to fiddle wrongly with my vehicle)
Whether the guy has to fix it or not, he shouldn't be trying to break it. That car was someone's brand new pride and joy - he doesn't pay for insurance on it, he doesn't wash it and Armor All the interior. Going 140, had he crashed he wouldn't be alive to be so smug. He says he was on a deserted airstrip....it's a shame he didn't kill himself, we could be rid of another small shred of stupidity and no one else would have been injured!
He showed a total lack of respect for someone else's property and anyone who would do that, should be shot.
