David Hasselhoff?

It APPEARS that David Hasselhoff commented to TV Guide that a Knight Rider movie is in the works! He did not mention any DETAILS though.

Sorry guys...I know this doesn't really fit the forum, but I HAD to tell someone.

It would have been cool if they did a Knight Rider movie back when the show was popular, but I think if they made a movie, it won't be good. Did you ever see the remake of Herbie the Love Bug? If you haven't, it was absolutely horrible.

This is old news....the same production company that made XXX and Fast in the Furious is in charge. It is supposedly gonna be story where Micheal Knight turns into somewhat of the Devon character as in charge and there will be a new driver to some new machine. As for you AJ_92RS you're wrong its the turbo boost button...had two ways of working one was like shot of nitous that would boost you for a short period of time or it would work to boost you into the air and jump. There was a button for persuit mode...that just kind of switched KITT from driving in normal mild city driving mode...to kick *** I'm no your tail type of driving. Micheal would normally just verbally queue it. As for the movie with the 57 chevy that was outfitted with KITT's CPU that was Knight Rider 2000 kind of a shame in the Knight Rider universe...although not as shameful as Knight Rider 2010 a Mad Max type movie that sucked ***. There is also a Duke's of Hazzard movie coming that was announced way before the Knight Rider movie. The Knight Rider movie idea has been floating around for about a year now. Also if its not out yet it will be out soon there is a Knight Rider game coming out for the Playstaion 2

When I posted that I wasn't angered or anything I was calm...nothing in your post suggested you were joking. So how was I suppose to know. I just though you'd made an honest mistake and was just correcting it but I didn't mean it to sound like a harsh statement. Also I was just adding some info some people may have found intresting.

I don't want to see that movie made. It will only degrade the image of the original Knight Rider series. It was too long ago.

I never knew about the Knight Rider 2010. Guess it was just that bad. I did see the Knight Rider 2000. Definately needed some work. I heard they were initially going to be doing another TV series & that got cancelled because GM did not want to help out. Could they have changed it to a movie now. And is it a TV Movie or a big screen movie? But what if GM still says no. I don't want to see another repeat of Team Knight Rider with all Ford products! Man that show was a disaster.

If anyone is going to the thirdgen meet at the Volo Automuseum you'll get to see K.I.T.T. They have a show car there. I'm pretty sure its a authentic one but I could be wrong. One thing I don't like about the Volo museum is that its too dark to properly take pictures. Most of them come out under exposed. Specially with digital camera's.

I loved the original show, and I though that KR 2000 wasn't too bad. KR 2010 stunk, and TKR I never got into so I won't say anything about it. I'm not blind to the original show though, it had its faults. Sometimes very weak plots, and towards the end when funding was down very stupid props. Still, If I had the money I'd build my GTA nice, then buy a 2nd firebird and have someone build a K.A.R.R replica. Kitts a little overdone IMO.

Sorry AJ I didn't know that the smilies and dancing white blobs meant you were kidding...I think you need to calm down man. They're not gonna use a firebird. When the orignal series came out Universal got into some conflicts with Pontiac. Pontiac was getting frustrated with people going to dealerships and ordering a KITT optionn on their new trans ams...if you ever watched the show you'll see how in the earlier episodes they would actually call KITT a Trans Am...not Micheal per say but if the cops noticed KITT or whetever they'd call him a Trans Am and in the later episodes they would just refer to him as a black t-top. It is another reason why in the movie Knight Rider 2000 Pontiac didn't go into contract with Universal and allow them to use the protoype show car Banshee. Instead the car in Knight Rider 2000 was a dodge stealth with a lot of fiberglass work done to make it look like a Banshee. As for it being a riced out honda I'd hate that too. However don't forget that its also the same production company that made XXX that had a kick *** GTO among other American muscle cars. A production company doesn't have anything to do with the story they just help materialize it. As for KARR...KARR in the first episode that he appeared was nearly identical to KITT he even had a red scanner the only thing that was different was the voice box which was yellow in color...that and he was evli. The second time KARR appeared was when he had a yellow colored scanner lense and he was still all black for the first hafl of the episode; only until the second half did he have the black and silver two tone paint scheme. Since supposedly KARR was buried in the sand for a while his electronics stayed like the old ones with a two TV dash and KITT had the newer one TV dash in the second KARR episode.
I bet a lot know about Marks custom kits but I suggest you guys check out Adiautotech

Oh and in addition...actually Pontiac might come back and play a part rumor has it that they liked the GTO in XXX but didn't really have anything to do with the production company choosing it...but since the new Knight Rider movie is coming out and being produced with the same people and the new Pontiac GTO is coming out as well Pontiac might choose to sponsor the movie in order to have a nice little launch for the new GTO

I gotta say that I'm sure some sort of Nitrous was used for a lot of scenes, but there was a lot of FF work too. those scenes of KITT hammering down those twisty curves....no way, gotta be fast forwarded.

If it's not a TA...it won't sell.

Yeah he is out of his prime. He should step back as the Devon type character. I saw part of some TV movie with him in it as Nick Fury. Uh, OK, whatever! I guess if the Germans still love him... Hard to believe how popular his singing was over there. I have never heard a lick of it.

You're kidding us too, aren't you?

If some moron back in the early eighties went to a Pontiac dealer and actually asked for the "KITT option" on a new Trans Am, the salesman would have just laughed at them and that'd be the end of it. Why on earth would Pontiac care? Even if they received 100 calls a day requesting that they offer such an option package, it still would not bother them. The show was probably responsible for selling quite a few T/As in the years that it ran on TV. I don't think Pontiac minded that too much, if they even cared at all. If there was any "conflicts" as you put it, they certainly were not because of customers bugging Pontiac dealers for a KITT replica.

I'm aware that there is little difference body wise between KITT and KARR. But I'd rather have KARR because there aren't as many replica's on the road. I don't trust myself with body work, so I wouldn't be doing any of it.

There were 2 versions of KARR, as he appeared at least twice. One version was identical, except for a yellow scanner and yellow spectrum analyser for the voice...the other version he was 2 tone, black top and silver bottom, as Kj pointed out. I believe there was some wheel arch modification but I may be wrong about that.

IMO he had a better voice. The downside was that idiot who was Michael's twin brother, only with a moustache. Man he was a moron. Now what was his name?

You are correct, his name was Garthe(sp?) Knight. He also created the monster semi known as Goliath. Basically just a stock semi with the "Molecular bonded shell" compound on it to make it invincible.

Not true KARR originially was almost identical to KITT. The only difference is the voice box display above the stearing wheel. In the first half of season one KITT only had a blinking light for a voice box display. It was later updated to the synthesizer style similar to what was first seen on KARR. The exterior of KARR was the same as KITT. Including the red scanner light. KARR was first seen in the season one episode Trust Doesn't Rust and he was thought to be destroyed when he fell off of a cliff.

The next time KARR was seen was in season 3 in the episode KITT Vs. KARR. In season 3 they updated KITT's dashboard to look a little more modern. KARR retained the original first season style dash and in this second episode his scanner was yellow. This is supposedly due to spending two years stuck in the sun. In the second half of the episode KARR added the 2nd tone of grey to distinguish himself from KITT. KARR was destroyed later on in this episode and was never seen again. However they did show that in the wreakage the CPU of KARR did surivive. The CPU was a reused prop from the episode "Soul Survivor" in which KITT's CPU was removed from the car and thrown away.

Also for the record Pontiac did get mad at MGM for the use of the Trans-AM name in the show. In the second season they were forced to quit calling KITT a "Trans-AM" and from then on only reffered to KITT as a "black T-Top". That description always bothered me a bit.

If it's not a TA...it won't sell.
One more note and I will quit bugging everyone with my useless Knight Rider knowledge.

KITT's prop car or cars (as there were several of them) were 1982-1984 Trans-AMs. Some people believed they were Recaro TA's. This is not true. KITT has PMD seats not Recaros. One Recaro TA was seen in the show. It was owned by Michael Long before he was shot in the face and underwent surgery to become Michael Knight. The Recaro TA was left in the desert according to the show. However it was clearly a Recaro TA. The base 305 CFI injected engine was not up to the task of the stunts and simulated performance that the car would need to have for the show. The ripped out the CFI 305 and replaced them with Chevy 350 SB's. They were 4bbl carbs. All emissions and electronics were removed. The car was powered by a 5 gallon racing fuel cell in the trunk. As far as the way the car cornered it was because the stunt driver had a toggle switch installed in the car to allow him to disable the rear brakes so that the famous "bootleg" turn could be executed. It's also funny that in the show they used a power released trunk lid. Which TA's of the day didn't have. This was a special effect that was done by the actor pulling a cord found behind the seat that would release the latch. Oddly enough Pontiac added this feature in 1985.

I think that Knight Rider is one of my favorite TV shows of all time...
even though it is classic Glen Larson..and I am damn sure Mike Post did every theme song for every TV show from '78 to '88...that guy gets around...
The mention of Garthe made me smile...I remember that fatal plot flaw...because if he was a twin of Michael...wouldn't he look like Michael LONG...not KNIGHT? Just my 2 cents...

Negative. Garth Knight was the son of billionare Wilton Knight. When they found Michael Long in the desert with his face blown apart, Wilton had him reconstructed in Garth's image. Kind of like when he failed with KITT's prototype KARR. He tried again until he got it right.

Wow...is that in an episode somewhere? I thought I have seen them all...
I liked the later ones when he went into Super Speed Mode or something, and wings and pop out parts were all over KITT...heh...or the Convertible Mode...
...anyway....Is there a good place to get the Knight Rider backstory?

Also if its not out yet it will be out soon there is a Knight Rider game coming out for the Playstaion 2
oh you built the car right?

Yeah, the Super Pursuit Mode, where Kitt has almost as big a wing as some rice burners? And the convertible t-top? lol I loved that show, and I am gonna get a Knight Rider nose for my TA, but there were many flaws in the series. Still, I think they need to use an American car for KITT. It'd be nice to see a third gen, or even a Firehawk! Anyway, later.
