what would you guys do?

here's my ?, I'm really thinking about buying a 97 SS and offing my 87 IROC.........it's pretty nice, remove all decals, t-tops, tinted windows, and chrome 18's iroc rims..............it's basically all stock and don't really want to put 3K into a 350 when I can just go get the SS

what would you guys do?.............thanks for your advice.

I would put the $3k into a 350 if it were me. But, the good thing about the SS is, it's newer, less problems.

But they're harder to work on, don't handle as well, you'd prolly have to get full coverage insurance. And they don't look as good.

$3k can get you into the 13s if done right..

im basicly in this boat too... but i desided to keep me 3rd gen and get a 4th gen later. see i cant get rid of my 3rd gen... iv put way to much into it to let it go. but i will be buying a 4th gen, and keeping the 3rd gen and making it a street/strip car. the 4th gen is gonna have few simple mods (headers, exhaust, supercharger, blah blah blah)...it will be a better daily driver than my 3rd gen, and less maintnenss

edit..
but i wouldnt get a SS(dont have the cash).. i was thinkin about geting a 97 LT1 for 5-7g's then modding it...it be a 12 second 11g car..and plus the older the better insurance wise

Higher Insurance, Car payments, Low resale value of IROC, having a loan..........

Just some things to think about.......

I was thinking this was kinda modest. 3 grand into a 400 could get you into the 11's provided you can get a block cheap enough and you did some suspension mods. Or you could also go with forced induction on the stock motor.

I'd stick with the IROC if I were you. Seems that LT1 / LS1 are the hot ticket right now and cost more to mod due to demand and popularity of parts. Plus decent condition IROCs are becoming more and more rare these days. Just my opinion of what I would do.......

You got it right there brother. Try changing a distributer on a LT1, which by the way is done more often than you think due to it being right behind and below the water pump, when the pump leaks it takes out the distributer. Or how about cylinder heads, warranty pays 12 hours of labor to replace head gaskets. That would't be too fun to pay for with a shop labor rate of $79.95 per hour or even thinking of doing it in your driveway.

To me there is no question, 3rd gen is the way to go.

Keep the thirdgen.. everyone has fourth gens now. The SS's are nice, but I love IROCs.

Keep the thirdgen and get a 350. Rip out that ecm and run a carb. You know how much HP you can get with that $ ? Try and put that into a 98 ss. Good luck the last I heard the intake manifold alone was 500 bucks. Unless you dont want to go fast then that might change your mind. All you would have is the look of a over priced car.

they are set up to understeer to be safer at speed. the iroc and ta's with the higher performance handling options are set up to oversteer, loose is fast as long as you can keep it on the road. also, irocs and gta's with the highest hanling options pull more g's in the skidpad than a 4 the gen. 4 th gen has shocks up frint, we have struts, 4th is suppose to be setup for more ride comfort, were as they did not give a F*ck how our cars rode. that is why

thanks

thats why i have only bought thirdgen's so far..

i usually can get a good deal, and i pay for them with all cash..

i dont feel like being in debt for a long time, just to buy a ls1 camaro/firebird..

i mean they are bad *** looking and very fast.. but i can make my car run just as fast with like 3 to 4 grand in upgrades.. without having any higher insurance rates, and most important not having to be in debt..
