I fell in love with my first camaro back in 90 when my step uncle had his. of course the Firebird love has to go back to KITT I loved that car (of course the driver wasnt that bad looking either).
Have owned both firebirds & camaros of the 3rd Gen styling. Wanted a Trans am when I went out looking & found my Iroc & fell in love with it because of the Saddle tan leather seats.

82 Pace cars
87-90 Irocs
91-92 Z28s
95 Z/hawks
98-02 SS
82-85 Recaros
91-92 Trans am ,GTAs
97 Firehawks

I like them because when I was a kid, I lusted after them. I wanted one so bad I could taste it. I had pictures of them all over my bedroom, right next to Cookie Monster.
My first car wound up being an 86 firebird by accident, and since then I've always had at least 1 thirdgen in my posession.

Its an F-body, that means its just automatically cool. Guys who know nothing about cars will ask you about your camaro/firebird, no matter what shape its in. Chicks dig em too. Not to mention being the generation before the newest they are cheap to work on and upgrade (Cheaper i should say). They handle quite well too, which kind of suprised me when i got mine. Not to mention, like others have said, they just look bad azz.
Chicks *DID* dig them before fast and furious came out...
Heres what i think...
Chicks *USED* to think ricers were stupid, then they saw fast and furious and picture vin diesel (every modern girls hero) in that honda civic with lights under it and there ya go!
wait till knight rider comes out

Lately, it's real hard to think of a reason.
Um...looks okay sitting still....and give me a perfectly flat road, throw in a sharp corner and it's fun.
Stright line sucks and all the damn rattle are driving me nuts!
I do like the drving position-- sporty

I can't get them out of my blood. I've had three F-bodies - '79 T/A 6.6 liter, '81 Camaro SC 350, and my '91 RS. All were separated by other vehicles, and I just keep coming back. They just fit my personality and they project an image that I like. When I was looking for my RS, I had thoughts of a "responsible" car (I'm a 38 year-old family guy) and realized that I wouldn't be happy with anything but an F-body. I'll grow up later.

Well when I was a kid I watched Knight Rider and that gave me the bug. As I got closer to driving age it seemed to be the only car that really appealed to me. Also it was the only car whose styling I had not tired of over the years. This was 89 and obviously 3rd gens were quite established by then and all over the road.
So I convinced my parents to allow me to get this sports car. Though dad would only allow a V-6 for the sake of my safety. So I got my 3rd gen in 89 when I was 15.
Over the years my bond to the car grew and grew. I'm not comfortable in any car but him. I have never tired of the styling. Sure in the last 2-3 years I have tweaked him a bit, but that was my need to set RAIF apart and give him a personality. And contrary to popular opinion on this board, RAIF gets compliments all the time. 90% of the time when I'm at a gas station someone will come up to ask or compliment about him. Men, women, young and old alike. I have even had people flag me down on the road to compliment me and ask questions.
So 12 years later, at 140,000 miles, I know I will never sell RAIF. He is family now. Overall his 2.8 has been slow yes, but 99% reliable. A pain in the butt, esp when running crappy, but it would get me where I needed to go. And thru it all that engine has taught me alot. And surprisingly it has run even with so much wrong that it should have been dead on the side of the road. So it has earned a place of honor eventhough it will soon be replaced with the V-8 RAIF has earned.

ooh, where do you start,
when i was a kid, i had a toy Z28 with real working lights (wow). coz i was ignorant (i live in the UK) i just thought it was a fictitious car. the second I found out that it was real I just had to have one.
also there was something about a TV show featuring a bloke with a black t/a and a poodle on his head!

I thought you were from England before I even saw your location. "Bloke" "crisps" "colour" I like how you guys over the pond have different terminology. What do people think of thirdgens in the UK?

all American cars have a relatively small following in the UK, however, the thirdgen is by far the most popular American car.
Thirdgens are responsible for new blood in the American car scene in this country (under 30yrs), they are admired by the general public, and are one of the most affordable performance cars over here. The nearest thing to a down side is the fact that you do get asked "thats cool, what is it?" on a weekly basis, it's great for a while, but it annoys some owners ( i don't mind)
comments about mine have included,
"wow cool car" "cor look, a ferrari" "look, its Knight Rider" and my favourite one, from an old slightly drunk east european gent "ya rich poser"
Interestingly, there are very few people that don't like it.

lets see for me it was knight rider, after that that was it i just had to have one but nothing against camaros, but i honestly think the trans-am has the better look to it what with the nose and all, but theres nothing similar to the 3rd gen style f-body around which is what i like about it, it has a "one of a kind" essence to it, they are comfortable to sit in, the sleek design makes for a cool, but intimidating style no other car seems to have, and when you get the right engine in it, its as fast as it looks

always loved thirgens.....plenty of legroom....totally comfortable for bigger people...im six feet tall and 300 pounds and i love being in my car.......its wide with a low center of gravity...which makes for some great stock handling....not to mentionwhat canbe done with it...
overall just a great car
some people call it the poor mans vette but i disagree.....i think its an icon all its own

thirdgens just kick AZZ! plain and simply put, they are the best bang for you buck imo. i only paid $5k for my 89 rs with 50K miles on it, owned it for 2 years and all ive had to do to it so far as far as fixing it goes is replace the tranny mount cuz this car is a damn monster! plus ive raced hundreds of pretty fast cars(including DSMS, VR6'S, and mudstangs) and havent lost a race yet!

If I had to pick my car all over again, I would choose an 85 M635 BMW, it doesn't have any bang for the buck, but I always loved the style of those tuned 6 series BMWs. 285 bhp from an inline 6 isn't bad either. I would only buy a GTA or TTA if I ever bought another thirdgen. I can't argue with the fact that thirdgens offer the most value in terms of the cost/performance to happines correlation ratio analysis.

I think its despite only being a lowly LG4 sport coupe 305 with no GFX and little in the way of options, it makes me feel good every time i turn the key!

I agree, it does look nicer without one, but the car is a daily driver, and i'm not too keen on barry no brain ramming me coz he didn't see me in the fog!
H***A did one for the integra type-R that was quite small and very neat that probably could be let into the black section of the bumper. with the lens lightly tinted, it would probably be hard to notice.
Are you UK based, or just very clued up (most people outside the UK wouldn't know what an MOT is)
The towbar is there because i have a dirt bike and (when i get round to getting a trailer) will use the Camaro for towing it to public tracks, plus i want a jet ski!

I would tell you that I like my car, but I will let the picture say everything.
(me racing an Acura TL type s)
I think that thirdgens are among the last generation of affordable sports/muscle cars in which the designer put down on the paper what he always dreamed a sports car would look and feel like. Hearing my engine growl in front of me, and watching other thirdgens growl in Japan, England, Sweden, Australia, etc..etc.. this makes me proud to be an american.
Additionally might I add that due to the number of thirdgens made, almost every local junkyard here in El Paso has in excess of 30 + third gens for the scrapping. It may take another 20 years for our thirdgens to become classics, but until I have finished my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (thirdgen), I like it like that.

and here's an interior shot. The silver parts are Rover Gun Metal, it works well in photo's but looks beter still in the, um, plastic!
The tow bar is actualy a super descreate one, most people don't notice it. when i have the flowmaster box on the back and there is a pair of 3 1/2 ins chrome tips poking out i think it will divert the eye even more.

Reasons:
Pluses.
1) I could Afford It ("Only" 8900$)
2) I could Insure it (Pretty damm expensive 12%)
3) I dont get Strange looks from crocks
4) Its a much better option in every way than any other car in its price range. (Looked in to really old cars but they could not be insured)
5) Always liked the look of it.
6) There are no many here but they seem to be multiplying. (Importing used cars here is pretty difficult)
7) It have a pretty fast top end for my needs.
8) It handle very good.
9) My friends Like it very much.
10) Its the only car in wich I feel good, driving it, hearing it, just sittingo on it or looking at it make my day better.
Minuses.
1) I want to mod it very much but the money here is
pretty short and everything is imported.
2) No parts cars here anywhere.
3) Driving it in the rain is not fun at all.
4) Pretty low (My airdamm and spoiler is all scraped)
5) Can hear the chasis flex.
6) Expensive "local" parts.
7) Everything seem to rattle in bad asfalt.
8) No thumbs up from girls here.
9) No one here know anything about it and call it a mustang!
10) I´ll have to sell it as I will move to Spain early next year and my heart will broke.
The last one is not that important as im very shure i will make much more money there than here and I will be able to import a nice used f-body in a short time.

I like it cuase it breaks down a lot, and drains all my money all the time, and when I finally go to do something good to it, something else breaks.. and than I become stressed and pissed off and ask my self why do I like this car?
Becuase it just looks, drives, feels cool
except in the rain snow and any other stupid wet conditions it sucks!!!

I was looking for an affordable performance car, and a mustang was out of the question (don't like fords). So I looked for a 3rd gen iroc or ta. I found this 91 ta with a 5speed, it had t-tops (a plus)and after I drove it I was in love, had lots of power and it could spin the tires whenever I wanted. I've never had a stick shift v8 car and couldn't believe what I missed out on for so many years.

I'm with you Davecamaro- mines a freakin money pit. Most unreliable car I've ever owned. My other Camaros were pretty good though. I like the premise of V8 RWD car but
everytime I go over the slightest bump in the road, shudder, creak, groan--quite a racket. So much so I really don't like drving it anymore.
Maybe it was built on a friday? Of course, if it was fast (it's a slug) that's make it wee bit more enjoyable.

Yeah same here,
our awsome canadians roads dont help either.
Every little bump, sounds like the car is falling apart.

Cheap, Hardly Efficient, Virtually Runs On Luck Every Time

the iroc-z was my dream car when i was little, (with the execption of the 89 lambo countach 25th ann. edition with 48 valve v12, like 50 were made) so i said to myself, i will own many iroc's. my parents told me they were unrealiable, ad that they were dangerous. so i went and got my first iroc when i was almost 17, the 87 iroc that i hit a light pole with. that was really depressing, and it has been almost exactlly a year since it happend. so i went around for 6 months afterwards saving my money and having my heart hit the floor everytime i seen an f-body or road in momar's t\a. then the big black 89 iroc's add came up. i looked over thinking its not worth it for a couple weeks, but then levi (lbrohez) sent him an email asking if he still had it, and he did. i became more interested, went and looked at it for like an hour, got the rpo's from it, made a deal of 3000, wnet and looked at it somemore (looking for rust) then test drove it at 120 mph. stoped, looked over at the guy with his white knuckles, and said "ill take it". so im on my second iroc and am going to mod it heavilly this winter.
anyway, i like it because it is one of those bad *** cars that makes everyone **** there pants when it goes by at 160 MPH. it is aggressive, and looks a hell of a hole lot better than any stang or civic.
in other words, its a iner want that makes me want these cars so bad.
may sound stupid, but i want one of every year iroc, then eventually, one of every color of every year. thats almost 40 irocs. but thats after i get my batchlers (sp)
thanks for the time

No offence but you should learn to spell Bachelor before you even start thinking about getting it.
I forgot to say, that before I purchased My car I looked to others My top choices where a 71 Mach1 with a 351C with a top loader 4 speed, and a 85 mustang GT with 351 and everything (was sold very quickly).
Then I beagn looking at thirdgens, they where very costly (from 6000$ for a beated rs to 11000$ for a z28) when I looked mine at 8000$ I tought I was pretty lucky and bought it afther a test drive, checked the panels for possible crashes, the interior was in pretty good shape, and the car responded pretty good to throttle, no extrange odors in the scape, everything nice and stock but the weels and tires wich where exchanged fo 15" with 235 up front and 255 in the back wich give to it a pretty mean stance but the front end spoiler was at only 4inches and its now in a pretty bad shape.
Im definetly in love with the thirdgen Camaro, I love the look, the grip, and the way the sound of it put a smile on my face.

A mate was having his IROC vert re-sprayed. The IROC decals were stupidly expensive, so with the aid of my digital camera and the graphics company he worked for, we made our own. we offerd a set up to my car and they looked good, breaking up the white a little, so they went on.
Plus they were free!!!
Besides, over here not many people know what an iroc is, so people never question it!

I like it because it's my modern muscle car.
You wont find that look & handling in
any other rear wheel drive car.
And even thouh it seems like its getting
enough attention.. you still have loads
of room for custom work or modification.

Phil,
Are you still able to make these decals? I could be interested as my IROC is getting new paint next year.
