Thinking about buying this 85 Trans Am

Here are a couple of pics of her,

It has power windows, t-tops, new pads and rotors, disc brakes, 3.73 gears (from the factory) 5 speed, L69 HO, WS6 suspension.

Interior is not so great, but that can be changed, small dent on the rear next to the drivers side tail light, small dent on the hood.

I am probably going to try and get it so I can have something to drive. I can get it for $900 since he is a friend of mine.

What do you guys think?

Zepher,

It does not look too bad.. 900 bucks for a running car is a good deal. Does it need any work? I would say if you have all the parts you need to get your car running again and you can afford to drop 900 then go for it.

Looks decent in the pics, but being in person always give you a better idea. I say go for it, it looks like a solid foundation for a beater or rebuilding.

Well, I'd buy so I can have something to drive. I need about $5K till my car is running, so this would be good for now.
Here is a link to a video of my car, http://www.transamws6.com/video/ZepherWS6.mpg

The T5 on the 85 whines a little bit and grinds a little when shifting quickly into 2nd gear, the other gears shifted fine.

I'll see if I can gather up enough money to get it.

I'd go for it. Seems like a good deal. I've seen Trans Ams in lot worse shape for a lot more money.

I would buy it. I love the blue and silver combo, especially the darker blues. I like the deep dish wheels.

Zepher,

Do you need another thirdgen right now?

Actually, I've been selling a lot of my extra 3rd gen parts lately. Seems like my car is becoming more like a 4th gen.
I'll probably put some money down on it tomorrow and get it next week, hopefully.
I'll have 4 3rd gens at my house, an 85, two 86's and a 91.

it looks like it is in good condition but what does it have for an engine and are the headlights just up or are the motors blown out in them? but other than that i'd by it only because it's a thirdgen and it's a trans-am

Buy it but don't mess with it untill you finish your car! Your car is turning out sweet, but its taking you a long time to finish, so just drive this one, no mods untill you finish that one.

It has a 305HO, 5 speed, and 3.73 gears, one of the headlight motors isn't working so he has both of them popped up.

Oh, and I wouldn't mod this till my car is done.

Deffinately go for it. Before I owned my Formula I owned an 85 TA with the l69/t5 combo but I had the 3.70 9 bolt. Hands down my favorite 3rd gen. Be careful though, right before my t5 blew up it started whinning a little bit then bam! Had to walk 10miles down the side of the interstate at night just to get to a phone. I tell ya what, when an 18 wheeler blows by ya at 70 mph its enough to make ya $hit your pants.
