Gives Mustangs a hard time even with a 305 TPI. What is up with the decals?

I don't think a "bone stock" 305 TPI with just shocks, struts, K&N's, tires, and a 4-point seatbelt is gonna make that thing run with a 350

I don't like the nasty stickers anyway.

I dont know about the 305 vs 350 thing but I kinda like the idea of the stickers. I dont particularly like the way he did it, but the idea of a car intended for the track only sporting wild decals makes me smile. After my 90 RS goes black, and it becomes deemed as 'track only' I'm thinking about doing something somewhat similar.

It's okay, i too am curious on how that can compete with an L98 with the short list of things done to it? Who knows, maybe it is a 350 TPI, and he has no clue. LOL

I am unsure how thaa makes it R>>I>>C>>E>>. It is a race car! Race cars have sponsor, therefore race cars have stickers. I don't see why it can't contend with the 350. Its autocross. Most of the time a winner wins, is because of his/her talent to drive. It's not always the car. Infact it is never the car for the most part. A fast car with a crappy driver will not will the race! A bit slower car with a really good driver will win for sure. Just my .02

If they are sponsor decals, it doesn't matter what you think because the company pays for them to be on the car and since it's their money, you don't have a say in how they look or appear.

If they are not sponsor decals, then I highly disaprove of them. I'm always amazed at how 5.0l of V8 is slow - I guess thats what a lack of technology will do for an engine.

Only if the 350 TPI driver develops some mechanical trouble.

like someone said, if they're talkin about auto-x then yeah I can see it.

But that is definately not a 350 car, look at the back hatch, that tells it all

Well said. I think the guy's point on the website is that even though he's only running a 305, he's still beating cars that probably have more power, and this is most likely due to the driving. It says the car finished first in points during the last season. Hard to argue with that. In X-cross, it's not inconveivable that the right driver in a 305 can beat a 350, a 5.0 Mustang, etc. OK, i'm done.

I agree. With a 305 and a manual transmission, his car probably has an advantage over the 350 auto guys, in autocross. If it was drag racing, though...

Yep,
In autocross, a 3.1 can run with a 350, depending on the driver.... so its not all about muscle, more about finesse....
Thanks and Gig 'em!

Yep yep

I beat a fourth-gen Camaro on my first and only (so far) autocross with my 305 TPI with issues.

The 305 can definately win an autocross course if there are a lot of twists and curves, but if there are long straight aways and few turns then the 350 would reign supreme.

There were no 350's that came stock in an 86 IROC, regardless He's doing well with the 305 anyways. I'd drive it.

Most autocrosses are so short that a 305 with the right gearing can easily keep up to or beat a 350 car. As for Mustangs, it's been known that stock for stock, an F-body, especially a 3rdGen, can out-handle a Fox or SN95. There are acutually kits out there that convert a mustang 4-link rear end to a torqe-arm/panhard bar setup that looks exactly like an F-body. Go figure.

Last time out at the autocross, the three fastest cars were (slowest to fastest)

3: '72 Porche 911 (Street Prepared)
2: '93 Corvette ZR-1 (Super Stock)
1: '98 Mazda Miata (Stock)

In Autocross, the biggest engine isn't always the fastest. At that meet, I got directly challenged by a guy with a 383 MonteCarlo, who didn't believe I only had a 305. I was 2 seconds a lap faster. He could have anihillated me at the drag strip, but I could out drive him on the autocross.

Ummm, the tech data section on this site. Also, raptoryfm660r has a video of a test run at a track of an '86 IROC I do believe.

Umm, It was rumored that 50 or so got made, but for the most part you are not going to see one, especially at an Auto-X event. HA! If any one has one, I wanna see the rpo sheet and the VIN# to prove it, not some video. Alright I was wrong, sorry.

Ive autocrossed with this guy in the Wichita Ks area, The car is pretty quick. And is bone stock. He has been the F-Stock chanp in the Wichita region SCCA for the last two years. His name is Dwayne Hayden. I edged him out this year by 2 points in my 97. The graphics on the car are not permanent. They are a static cling type vinyl. He is planning on a complete engine overhaul and and front end rebuild this winter. The graphics on his car are advertisiment for the business he is in. Hot Tubs.

Not stock it doesn't. Only 5 spd IROCs from '86 were L69 engine ones, only 74 produced.

As far as I know.
