Extremely shiny taillights...like glass

I did a tail light mod that made me feel like I spent hours doing it, but it only took me an hour. I just used plastic buffing compound from Eastwood Company and a buffing wheel. It took out ALL of the scratches that dulled the tail lenses. It looks sweet now and it is sooo smooth. Check it out; 'before' picture is on the left, and 'after' picture is on the right.

Chrome polish works well too, especially if you're doing it by hand. It's a bit more abrasive, so it takes the scratches out faster. But, the plastic polish is nice to finish with.

If you've got a buff, then you're probably better off sticking to the plastic polish for all of it. I'd like to do my IROC lights with a buff, but I'm afraid it'll take down all the edges. Doing it by hand didn't give me results as good as what you have, but it definately helped.

I have a spare set that I was going to sell, and I spent about 3 hours hand polishing them. I used 1000 grit sandpaper to surface them, then finished them off with normal car polish. They look like glass, like the ones pictured.

Freeze- you should sand down those letters that collect wax on your lenses. It takes about 10 strokes with 400 grit wet. Then rebuff or resand and you cant even tell that they existed.

RU-QUIK- The plastic compound is $6 for a 13 oz tube. Doesnt sound like much but you use very little, so it will last for A LOT of tail lenses. Unless you already have a buff wheel, those are like $5 for eastwood. stock # from eastwood is 13138 for the compound.

BTW, the pics that i have above are not even close to doing those lenses justice, you will freak when you see the difference. It look so awesome. It gets rid of all of the scuffs and scratches on your lenses. You will be so thankful and cocky when you are finished

damn, those look incredible. I used the Maguires clear plastic cleaner and polish and I don't think my tail lights looked that glass-like.

yea the cleaner wont do it. you have to buff to take out the scratches. thats what the trick is.

im not sure if you can or not. I was given the recommendation of Eastwood's plastic buffing compound cuz it had been used by a buffing expert and liked it, so i went with something I knew would do i good job.

And buffing wheels, you will need either a Canton style, or a loose style. You can learn a lot from MIKE's website. just click on the link HERE and scroll down to the buffing and polishing tips...go through every article, it is very informational.

If you have any questions, email me, as Mike is kinda hard to get ahold of and a pretty busy guy, ( i sound like a freakin secretary)

There appears to be a lack of a rear downforce body part on Bills car, that is what he meant.

I bought a standard flat spoiler that was seen on the 82-84 Trans Ams....I haven't gotten around to putting it on. Im selling the car anyway so ill figure Ill leave it be and through in the spoiler and have the buyer mess with it.

i know this may sound stupid but when you are using compounds the buffing wheel, now the part that is sorta furry is that where u apply the compound too? dont you have to like heat it up to get it on the buffing wheel, do you have to wipe off alittle bit at a time when you do it with a rag?

the buffing compound comes in a tube. you just turn on the grinder or buffing wheel or whatever you have the wheel mounted to, and then push the compound against the wheel. the friction of the wheel against the compound causes heat causing the compound to adhere itself ot melt to the wheel. after that you start buffing, wiping your piece off every now and then with a rag. is that the answer you were looking for?
