wheels: forged vs. cast
wheels: forged vs. cast
forged wheels are obviously the lightest/strongest wheels around, but how much would someone realy gain by going with a forged wheel over, say, a cast wheel in terms of performance?
abviously a lighter wheel will take less power to move, but considering the price of forged wheels, is it truly worth it? are there any other gains im not aware of?
im buying wheels soon and the ones i want only come in cast...and while they are still pricey, they are nowhere near the amount that i would be paying for a forged wheel that i like.
opinions? facts?

His theory is that you make the weight of the car as light as possible but too light and it could turn into a Kite. So he designs the weight and function of the body and beefs up the weight of the wheels so there is a reduction in the lift.
This is just one mans theory (but he's a geneous!)
The Wheels are not going to improve performance on a street driven 3rd Gen. The only thing the Forged wheels will do is make your wallet lighter. But if you like them buy either the forged or cast wheels.
my street driven 3rd gen is pushing over 500 hp/tq. can someone with some useful info please chime in?
are u telling me ppl pay 3-4 times as much for forged wheels....for bragging rights? just to say the wheels on their car are forged?
cmon, they obviously do something for performance. i would like to know how big a performance difference there is between forged and cast. can someone who has had both on their car please help?
much appreciated.

Forged wheels are good for cars that put out a lot of torque and horsepower to the wheels without having to worry about the wheels breaking from the force. I think it runs on the same principle on why people get forged engine parts. No one who buys forged internals does so for the looks or to brag that they have forged parts.
yes, a forged wheel is stronger, and i could see buying them if ur worried about breaking your wheels
....but they are also lighter, are they not? wouldnt less rotating mass (since the axles are having to spin less weight) equal more HP hitting the pavement? and if so, have people noticed that changing only their wheels to a lighter wheel (not necissarily forged) gave them better performance?
thats basicaly what i want to know
