18s and a one inch drop

Im looking in to picking up a set of 18inch torq thrust 2s for my 88 trans am and just wanted to know if i might run in to any clearance problems because my car has a one inch drop. Also if you guys could provide me with the optimal rim width and backspacing it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Car: too many ...
Powermite ran 265/40/zr18's in the front with a 1" drop. He said it didnt rub unless you were at full lock. Driving was fine. I dont know what the optimal width would be (and the offset would depend on the width), I guess it depends on how much you want to modify your wheelwell to accomidate your drop. One inch drop isn't too low to run 18" wheels. For the best fitment I went with something close to stock width on the front. My 18's are 18x8 front (4.5 backspace just like stock) and 18x9.5 rear (5.5 backspacing) and I plan to run 245/40/zr18 front and 275/40/zr18 rear. Its possible to go with wider tires, but I want a setup that I can slam at shows (adjustable suspension), tuck the wheels deep into the wheelwells, and requires minimal fenderwell modification. Some might consider optimal being the widest possible, I consider optimal being the best fitment that requires minimal fenderwell modification. If you want to go really wide, you could roll the lip on the rear and run 265/40 fronts and 295/40 rears. Depends on how much work you want to put into it. Hope this helped ...

On my 85 T/A i've got the GTA gold crosslace wheels with no drop and 255/50's all around and they rub quite a bit, Is there anything i can do to make them not rub so much or just get smaller wheels or tires? thanks

I have indeed 18"s with 265/40x18" and ive lowered the car with edelbrock springs.9"wide front and 10"rear.
I am actually about to change these to 245/45 x 18"fronts and 275/40x18" rears therefore keeping the front and rear diameters the same.
I just felt that 265s are a bit wide on my 9"rims and they have a tendancy to wander and "tramline",so i thought maybe 245s would be a little better.
I cant tell you the exact backspacing but i think its about 5"front and 5.5-6"rear.
If you want to know exactly i will soon be taking the wheels off to have the tyres replaced so i'll let you know then.
cheers

Those brakes look sweet with your rims. Where did you get those rotors and how much did you pay? Ive got a complete 1LE set front and rear waiting to go on but i could use some new rear rotors so might as well go to cross drilled and slotted. Also those measurements would be great. thanks

The brakes are a Baer Kit and they came drilled and slotted.
I'll let you know the other dimensions soon
