House of Colors paint?

Hey guys i was woundering is the House of color paint a good brand of paint? Because i watch Monster Garage ALOT and thats the only paint they use in there and was woundering is it good/great? i have PPG on my car now but there are so many flaws and little dings and spots where i didnt get enuff paint on the car. so probably after summer if i have the cash im goin to get the car repainted again and was goin to tell the shop to use House of Colors like a Jet Black and then have Pearl White SS stripes up on the car also.

Hey also how would a black car look with a hit of blue pearl in it? im tryin to thihk of it but i think it will give a purple tint to it. anyone?

Also is House of Colors paint more expensive then PPG? i paid $335 for everything i needed from them to paint the car.

thanx

House of Kolors has been a round for a quite sometime and as far as i've ever heard the products are second to none but a bit expensive. Then again they had "color changing" paint in variety before ppg thought it was a worth while venture you really can't go wrong with either company. www.houseofkolor.com will get you more info. just go look at the pics prices and variety of "kolors" mixes and combos.

Neither one is really better than the other. Its all just going to be personal preference. I've seen people who would only use PPG, or only HOK, there are so many brands out there. Same goes for Sikkens, Dupont, etc etc whatever you want to use, as long as its a good quality paint you shouldn't have any problems. If your going to have a shop paint it then they will probably use whatever type they keep on hand. Most shops will stick with one brand because they get benefits from the company. Monster Garage probably uses HOK because it sponsors their show.

I don't think HOK has conventional colors. You can't go to HOK and get stock colors. They only have their own unique lines of colors to choose from. That's not a bad thing if you want a non-stock color though.

What bugs me is that they aren't very forthcoming with pricing and purchase info. My father owns a body shop so I requested some info so that we could get their paints, and all I got was a propaganda list that's the same as what's on their site. No prices and no info on who's d*ck I need to suck to get the stuff.

House of Kolor paint is awesome, but keep in mind its geared more towards custom colors for showcars and motorcycles; kandies, pearls, Kamealeon, marblizers, etc. If you want a conventional color, like black, you can get that from anybody, and add the pearl for the effect you want. Its expensive, but so is all good paint. HOK does sell regular black paint, but more as a base for the kameleon colors than anything else.

If you want to get HOK online, or any other paint and body supplies, check with these guys; most of the prices seem pretty reasonable.

here you go...........

like anything sites that don't post prices do it because they vary.

not extremely expensive although more than ppg.......cost me twice as much as a dupont chromeillusion. i wouldn't have my car in any other color.

helps when the pictures work......although there's enough on this site as it is. so check out the page if you need to.

I painted my bike with HOK's Tangelo Pearl.. It looks awesome when the light hits it, I reccommend House of Kolor paints if you want to use candy, peal or other specialty paints.

If I was aware of that color when I was doing my IROC, that's the color it would have gotten. It's probably the color it'll get next time I paint it. That's such a beautiful color!

I just got my car painted gonna pick it up this weekend and I wanted the black with blue pearl combo as well and I got mixed responses about the black with blue pearl. They told me it would not come out like I wanted. I wanted it to look black but when the light hit it reflect a little blue. They first told me my car would look purple if it had too much blue. Then they said if they had a tri layer paint job they can get a close effect but it would be more like a dark blue than a black that reflects blue. First paint black then blue pearl then clear. That is what they told me at the shop...but where I got the paint they said the only way to do it is to have a black blue pearl custom mixed...not a tri layer effect, just the mix and then the clear. He also said it would be more a dark blue also though...and it would take a while to mix what I wanted...they'd have to mix several batches and then spray some swatches for me and then I'd pick to see which one I liked the best. I just decided against it because it would be too much trouble and more money. So I opted to go with a color they arleady had that I picked out of a big book. It is a black with just a hint of white pearl...the black with the least white pearl they had, just to give it an extra little glimmer. Because the more white pearl they would add the more grey it would start to look. I can't wait to see it I should post some pictures by the end of the weekend. Good luck on your project. It is Dupont paint by the way

worry about how it looks in direct sunlight........everything else is pointless.

under white light at night my car turns purple...in yellow light it turns pure gold and under moon light it turns black.

thats really weird kandied91z. was that they way u got ur car painted that it changes in differnt lights or was that just a effect of how it turned out?

it's an effect that candy will cause...especially mine.

you have to understand all the colors before you can realize why it does it but it really is pretty simple.

there is a heavy gold and silver mix metallic base. the red clear which makes candy a candy disappears when a certain light is removed from the vision causing only the base color to show.

that's why i picked the color i did. i wanted as close to my factory stock dark metallic red as possible yet at just the right light it would drastically change to something completely different.

this is the reason why pictures do nothing for paintjobs.

like i said before, if i were ever to custom paint another car i'd have to stick with the candies.....there so much fun.

but im thinkin of what ur talkin about with the effects from ur paint and how it gave it a different look at differnt lights and i think ill put a little bit of blue pearl in it and if it looks great sweet, if it looks black at certain angles and then a slight hint or purple or blue when u look at it. and then the pearl white SS strips. i think it will look good.

go to the local junk yard and find a nice size pannel to test paint. have your painter spray two color choices on this pannel to compare and take your pick.

how about doing that in an orange....i actually kind of like that. :lala:

HOK also offers paint books with samples of the Kandy colors over different basecoats...the result you get is entirely dependent on what color base you shoot it over. If you want to see a good selection of candy paint jobs and various flames and other graphics (mostly on motorcycles), check out this site:
http://www.customflamepainting.com

Its also a really good place to get painting advice.

not only do different base coats matter but the number of layers of top coat as well.
