8 Hours later!

I was bored and started it at work a few nights ago, turned out to be an 8 hour project though.

Slightly larger to see more detail, its done in illustrator, therefore I can take it up to like 200 sum inches with no distortion.

Its harder then it sounds but, basically traced it with the line tool and pen tool in Adobe Illustrator.

Good job. I did this eariler today at college with Autocad 2002. I'm gonna draw me a realtime 3d camaro
It looks like crap on a stick but I did it in 35 min's inbetween drawing a custom plaque. I wish I had a brighter pic when I drew it out.

Yeah, it takes a lot of time to do these sometimes. Thats if you don't know how to draw. Some people can throw out a sketch in less than 10 minutes, and it will look as good as something I spent 6hours+ on.

You need to add a little color...that's what really makes your car shine!!! (no pun intended).
If ya send me the AI. file, I'l do it for ya', but don't give-up on tyying to do it yourself. The color is the hard part.

I knew a little of illustrator for a while, and Im in school for Visual Communications, so where learning it, just havent done the coloring yet. So yeah, let me know if ya wanna still play around with it, but I dont expect anything really out of it cause of how the .ai file is.

Illustrator and photoshop are arguably the best programs, BUT Quark is just so much fun. In a few minutes I'll post my reason as to why.

Heres why I like quark, I may ***** this into a new post too.

BTW for people who dont think there is to much to that, all work on there was created by me, not scanned, I did the HPP logo and even the Primedia logo/barcode, it looks a lot better full size but that would be to big to post.

I colored it kinda, needs more work, but I dont wanna put that much effort into this, Maybe next one I'll plan to make it good from the begining so its easier.

Hey 86....Email the file to me.
I could just redo the entire car, but that's already done...no need to re-invent the proverbial wheel here.

Just saying...
I drew it in adobe photoshop, i use layers, makes it very easy.
here is an example, u probably seen it already
this took me about 1 hour to fully complete.

how did i do it? grab the original photograph, use the paint brush tool, with a combination of holding the shift button to make a series of lines to outline the major curves. then make a new layer for the color and place it behind the line layer. then make another layer for lights and utilities and stuff. very simple.

i wasn't trying to turn him down, i was merely suggesting that if it took you 8 hours just to get the lines (which look VERY good i must say) then perhaps you gotta change your method to speed it up

I know, that wasnt "true" attitude, it was joking. I'v seen your work before, I like it, Photoshop is nice, but for stuff like this its got its limitations, try enlarging that, It aint gonna happen.

Now do this, still this crisp and sharp with photoshop. I can take that car a part peice by peice, and also I can scale, all, or any part of it HUGE, this is 500% of the wheel.

lol, that'd be sweet. For reasons such as that, that is why illustrator is so popular, you can scale from to small to see, to like 200 sum inches I think it is. and if thats not big enough, do it in multiple pages.
BUT, its vector work, you cant get photo detail out of it, it looks super crisp and well...cartoonish, Photoshop is equally amazing but it works in raster (pixel) images, so if you zoom in to much you see squares, but you can get perfect detail out of it otherwise, I love both programs equally. they are actually made to be used together and are sold in a package together too.

Yo, Trans AM. Those last 2 drawings were done by me a while back. The last one was suppossed to be what a 5th gen could look like, but it wasn't changed enough.
To me, it doesn't matter how long it takes you. Some people can do drawings in minutes while it may take others hours. The more of them you do, the faster you can get.
Even if an 8 hour drawing that you did would only take me 2 minutes, I still can appreciate what you did, especially if you don't do that kind of stuff on a regular basis.
I don't draw on the computer, I draw all of my drawings by hand and scan them into the computer. I use photoshop because I don't have illustrator. I am already very familiar with the program so I don't use anything else. One thing I don't like about photoshoop is that you can not resize an image to be larger without losing quality.

I've been listening to the photoshop/illustrator conversation, and here's my take. Keep in mind I use these prgrams at work all the time.
Anything you can do it photoshop, you can do in illustrator 100 times better... "illustration" wise. Of course for photos, PS is best. Doing a drawing over an existing photo, like the red one posted earlier seems to be popular, but it can be done to look much better by simply bringing the photo into Illustrator first. Sure, If you're not familiar with "AI", then the tools in "PS" will be easier for you to use, but it's worth learning "AI" if you enjoy doing this stuff. As 86 mentioned, "AI" is vectored, so you can do things in MUCH greater detail. "PS" is pixelated, or rastered, so you'll never get the detail. Don't think of the two programs as PHOTO and Drawing software, think of them as Pixelated/bitmap editors and vectored/line editors. They each cross over a bit, but none are as good as the other in there respective area, and why would they be? they're both made to work together. And yes, you can buy them together. I did.
Hope this helps...not that there was a problem.
Oh, and I'm gonna color 86's drawing, look for it soon.

devianb, you do your stuff by hand right?....in that respect, I suppose PS might make it easier if you want to mod your scans.
Haven't done that, so I'm not really sure.

LOL, and I haven't drawn a car on the computer.
In order for my drawings to show up in decent detail, I have to save them on maximum, which means the pics will be too large to post on here. Senior Member

Many years ago I got started on Paint Shop Pro. It is what I got used to for photo editing. I got a copy of Photoshop and never really used it much as I was too used to PSP.
I have never really known what Illustrator was but I have to say the illustrations you guys are pulling off are quite impressive. I would like to know more about the learning curve for Illustrator.

But once you have even a little bit of training its easy, and you learn more and more as you go, the program is quickly becoming my favorite, you can do anything with it really as far as illustrations.

Well, I'm self taught. Of course, I've been using various software for over 10 years now, so I kinda ruined THAT curve. Once you pick up the basics, it's easy. I still learn new commands and tools every now and then.
Here's an hour of woking with 86's file that he sent me. Dude, you were right about all those lines not being whole shapes....I had to do all kinds of cleanup...but all in a days work.
