4th gen console , same old with a little bit of twist to it...

it's a 95 automatic console that I had to extensively modify to make it fit and work but I think it came out pretty damn good , the one advantage of an auto console of that year is that it has the "power" button for the tranny , you can take that plate out , make a custom one and have your switches where they are without elongating the wires and putting them in a uncomfortable place like the ashtray (too far forward for me to lean with the harness on )

I've just seen a few comments here and there stating that it's impossible to make it work so here's one pic to prove that it's not true , it can be done and IMHO is way cheaper than buying a 6speed console (you can get an auto console for as little as $20 compared to paying at least $100 for a 6speed one) and as I said while it is a lot of work I like to have my window buttons nearby (heck I can't even reach the stereo with the harness on , thank *** for remote controls lol). (and I don't think I'm a midget at 6'3")

excuse the dirt everywhere , car has been sitting in the garage for months with open windows so everything has a nice layer of dust on it

(and yeah I know I have to replace my ignition lock , LOL)

Looks great! Can you do a close up picture of your switches?

Did you replace your shifter or only modify the console?

Can we see the other side?

I want to do this, I just shudder when I think about tearing up my car.

that's all I have , notice the plate is still "in the air" , I haven't figured out how to mount it to the console yet , I don't want to epoxy it to it as I want to be able to remove it , so I think I'll put a tiny black a screw in between the switches that will connect to a plate running horizontally underneath and that will hold the plate in place from underneath (I'll put some rubber bumpstops on each of the support plate so it doesn't rattle while driving , eh I'll figure something out later.

I didn't touch the shifter , and I don't have any pics of the other side , sorry, I'm too lazy to go downstairs and snap a few , lol

Is there a way to add gear shift indicator for the automotic?

I know were all the gears are, but for people that drive my car don't know. I'm glad to see that the Auto Console can work too.

well if you notice I had to cut all that out and make it into a M6 console like (the only advantage to that is that you can make your own custom shift boot which IMHO looks a little better than the stock M6 one), and that you have a convenient place for your power window buttons. Other than that you do have to make it into a 6speed-like console.

you COULD keep it as it was , all original , but then you have to relocate the shifter and by a LOT , that was my original plan but I quickly gave up on that , it would require some welding which I can't do (otherwise the shifter would kinda hang off the tunnel a bit and most likely rattle). If you ever try to do this you'll know what I mean, it's kinda tough to describe. But I think someone has done it so it's possible (anything is possible :-) )

btw , I Would have to say that anybody you trust enough to drive your car should have at least the 2 or 3 working brain cells left to figure out what gear they're in , lol. And if they're not sure then it doesn't take a genius to slowly let off the brake and see where the car moves , forward , back or nowhere in which case it would be neutral lol

Did you have to cut the stock dash in any way shape or form??

Most swaps I have noticed that they leave the 3rd gen radio/heat-air controls, and cut off below that, then put in 4th gen console. Looks to me you installed the 4th gen radio housing also

nope that is a 3rdgen 85-92 stock radio/HVAC firebird housing

the 4th gen pod is very different and part of the dash (I Know there's a 4th gen sitting right next to my 85 lol)

it wouldn't be hard to do for someone familiar with making fiberglass parts , but at that point you're better off with a completely custom setup anyway
