What type of steel wool to clean windshield?

I remember seeing it on TV, forget what show, but it was a detailing tip. It was a really really fine steel wool, and you cleaned your windshield with it. I forget if you used windex and then wiped with the wool, I think it was like that... but anyway, what kind of steel wool was it, 00 or something? Does anyone know what I'm talking about at all??? lol

Just use an SOS pad. I've used it on my rear hatch to get the gew from the crappy tint job off. Even around the rear defroster it was great.

I got the tip from a friend of mine who detailed cars proffesionally for 5 yrs. At first I thought he was crazy But after I did it, I was glad I did.

Just make sure you keep the pad soapy (with the soap that comes on it).

use WD40 and a fine grit of steel wool. u can get some at pepboys or any home depot type place but get the finest u can get and use the WD40 and clean the windows and then clean the WD40 off with like windex or something and then wax. it looks great after wards.

Its 000 steel wool.

Invisable Glass by Stoner works good too. Use a newspaper with the cleaner. Use a new piece with each window.

A friend of mine told me about that tip, as well. I used it on my Jeep and it worked really good. One thing to note, though... my steel wool pad got rusty after I used it a few times, probably because there was a little bit of water on the windshield. Would it still rust if I used WD40?

The best tip I've had was so use kerosene. A lot of elbow grease and paper towels was involved, but later a friend asked if I'd gotten a new windshield.

Dang, it's 000? Reason I asked was my dad got some 00 to clean something, and the 00 reminded me of this, but I wasn't sure if it was the right one or not....

Use 0000 steel wool only on older glass because older glass already has minor scratches and swirls in it. Never use it on a new windshield because it will leave very fine swirl marks in the new glass surface. Also, remember to always wash the vehicle after using steel wool because the steel particles will turn into rust if left on the painted surface.
