local shop wants $300 to powder coat HSR
I couldnt believe it when the guy told me he wants $300 to powder coat a HSR and I have to buy the plugs for the threads. Also, he said that powder coating can only last below 250 degrees. how true is that. he told me he doesnt reccomned it on intakes and that I should ceramic coat it instead. His shop looked nice and the work they did was nice but theres no way I am paying that much.

Almost all local bigger shops are very expensive like that. That's a horrible deal, 150-160 should be it tops. He's sort of right on the 250 degrees. The powder coating doesn't do well at 250+ degrees for extending periods of time... hour or so. It doesn't mean it'll flake off or peel, but it could do some type of side effect to it. He might have recommend ceramic coating due to being able to reduce temp. as opposed to powder coating which can actually help retain heat.
Of course the amount is probably too small to matter, but maybe that was the reason he recommended it.
His work should be nice... heh. It's extremly simple as it's nearly impossible to mess anything up. I've only messed up once, on my first runner that I powder coated, I was holding it with my bare hands moving it to the oven rack. When I began to spray, it came out in clumps from being stored in a bag for so long, I figured the powder would flow and no worries. Instead, it left a huge bubble from the clump, and then small black marks from my fingerprint oils and such.
Other than that, it's nearly impossible to mess powder coating up.
