valve covers

Are stock valve covers polishable?

If they are, thatll be my next project.

So are they aluminum? Or steel? They seem aluminumish to me, but they are still on the car

i don't know if they're polishable but I always see valve covers that look identical to the camaro ones, but chrome, for sale on ebay for like $15-20... so....

If they're original (on an F-body), they're steel. Some are painted silver, but they're not aluminum. Only Vette covers are aluminum.

I have heard both, but they look the same as other cast aluminum GM covers. Did some GTAs have aluminum? All the TPI motors I have ever seen had steel, unless they were Vettes.

we'll just have to see LT1guy. A guy on the boards is supposed to be shipping me some soon that he doesn't want anymore. I'll let you guys know if they can be polished....alluminum or not.

They are just stamped steel. Obviously not cast aluminum and no way on Gods green earth was GM gona shell out the bucks to make them magnesium. LOL that would be ridicaspensive.
